Authorities are searching for the parents of a two-year-old boy who was abandoned in a suitcase in the central Mexico city of Puebla.

The disturbing discovery took place Tuesday morning when a woman walking in La Loma neighborhood heard the cries of a child. 

The woman approached the suitcase and found the toddler covered in water.

While changing the boy's clothes, cop noticed that he showed signs that he had been recently beaten.

'He had visible injuries on his face,' officer Betsabé Zallas told Mega Noticias.

'Likewise, my job was to protect the minor, to keep him warm so that he could (be taken) to police cruiser to determine the minor's diagnosis.'

Paramedics arrived on the scene and found him to be in good health and then rushed him to North General Hospital, where doctors diagnosed and treated him for hypothermia, malnutrition and numbness in his body, ABC Noticias reported.

The child was discharged later in the day and remains under the custody of the National System for Integral Family Development, which is caring for him while police search for his family.

Gaby Bonilla, who oversees the social assistance agency, revealed on her X account that she met with the boy on Wednesday.

'I am pleased to share that his health is favorable and he will recover very soon,' she said.
