Two men have been shot dead and six others injured after a mass shooting broke out at a block party in Memphis.
The Memphis Police Department responded to emergency calls made from a park on Carnes Avenue near Mound Street at 7.19pm today.
They arrived to find five victims at the scene - of which two were pronounced dead while the three others were immediately taken to Regional One Health.
Officials said that soon after the remaining victims arrived at the hospital in private vehicles.
One of the injured is in critical condition while another has been released. The condition of the remaining four has not been clarified by police.

Footage shows people desperately running for their lives with one person yelling 'God they are going to kill us' moments after the suspect began firing.
According to Interim Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis, about 200-300 people were attending the block party earlier today.
In a statement, Davis clarified that the party was taking place without a valid permit.
'At 7.19pm, officers responded to the 2400 Block of Carnes Avenue regarding a shooting.
'Officers located five victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds on the scene, three of whom were transported to area hospitals in critical condition, and two males were pronounced deceased.
'Officers were notified that 11 additional gunshot victims arrived by private vehicle at area hospitals as well, for a total of 16 victims.
'This was a block party that was occurring without a permit. There were approximately 200-300 people were in attendance.

'During the follow-up investigation, we learned that there were only (8) total victims, with two of those being deceased on the scene.
'Only one of the six remains in critical condition at Regional One. One victim has since been released.
'We believe the error occurred with several victims being reported multiple times,' the police wrote in a post on X.

Officials have yet not identified any of the victims or suspects involved in the incident.
As of now, police believe that there are two people who fired shots at the party.
