A drunk driver was allegedly speeding at 105mph in his souped-up Mustang when he smashed into a pick-up truck throwing its 33-year-old driver out and killing her.

Police say Mustang driver David Lane, 66, was nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit when he crashed into Christina Diamond's Nissan on April 18 around 1am in Mesa, Arizona

The impact caused the Nissan to 'accelerate rapidly', roll over and smash into a fence, while the Mustang skidded on and hit a power pole before catching fire.

Photos of the horror smash show the blue Mustang crumpled against a telephone pole with mangled debris lying on the floor.

The crash happened around 1am on April 18 on University Drive near Crismon Road.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the scene to find the mangled Ford Mustang and a Nissan Frontier.

They believe that Lane was driving 105mph when he smashed into the back of Diamond's car.

The impact sent her car into a roll which threw her from the vehicle before it crashed into a fence.

The Mustang continued down the road for a quarter of a mile before it hit a power pole and caught fire.

Lane and Diamond were both rushed to the hospital where Lane was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and Diamond died.

At the hospital, deputies told AZFamily they tested Lane's blood and he was found to have a blood alcohol content of .23, which is nearly three times the legal limit.

He is expected to be booked into the Maricopa County jail once he is out of the hospital, according to the outlet

Deputies were first called to reports that a man had crashed into a power pole.

While they were on their way they were told a second vehicle had veered off the road and struck a fence nearby.

Photos from the scene show the blue Mustang's door off the side of the road wrapped around a power pole with its hood ripped off.

The door is open while debris is scattered around the side of the road.

The back of the gray pick-up truck is also visible, crumpled and off to one side of the road.
