Chilling video footage revealed a psychologist's last moment alive before she was found dead inside her home in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte on Tuesday night.

Fabiana Veras, 42, was allegedly gagged, tied up and stabbed by João Carvalho, 41, who was reportedly seeking information on his former girlfriend because she was dating another man.

The surveillance camera showed Carvalho wearing a head scarf with glasses and a surgical mask walking up to Vera's home in the Rio Grande do Norte town of Assú, where she also operated her clinic.

Veras welcomed Carvalho into the home and carried on a conversation with him for nearly a minute and a half inside the garage.

They later entered the living room and walked inside a bedroom, where Veras was stabbed multiple times on her hands and body.

Rio Grande do Norte Civil Police investigators found that Carvalho washed off the blood in the kitchen sink and then waited for a vehicle to arrive. He returned to the home to retrieve a bag he left behind and Vera's phone and then fled.

Carvalho was surprised by police  Wednesday as he approached a parking spot at his home 149 miles away in Natal, the state capital. Authorities seized three knives, two brass knuckles and a gun that had blood on it.

Authorities said that Carvalho, an employee of the Rio Grande do Norte justice system, paid a taxi driver about $100 to drive him to Vera's house. He was questioned and released.

'His intention, everything indicates, was to look for this cell phone, which he brought to Natal and destroyed, to get the contents, to find out what type of relationship he had with his ex-partner', Homicide Division chief, Márcio Lemos, told Brazilian news outlet G1.

Carvalho was interviewed by local outlet Assú Todo Dia and claimed he heard the devil's voice before he killed Veras.

'He threatens... He threatens my mother, who is the weakest. She suffers from the heart,' he said.

Veras specialized in clinical and hospital care, according to the Regional Psychology Council of the 17th Region.

She provided psychological services to teenagers and adults at clinic in Natal and Mossoró and also online.

'This is not just a job, I live psychology to help other lives,' she said on one of her social media accounts.

Veras enjoyed the outdoors, often sharing photos of mountain climbing, and competed in bodybuilding events.

'Physical activity doesn't just change your body,' she once commented on an Instagram post. 'It changes your mind, your attitudes, your mood and even your lifestyle.

'High performance sport doesn't only cause you physical, emotional and mental changes,' she added. 'It makes you vibrate in other standards: the standard of self-challenge, self-knowledge and breaking boundaries. You start a duel with yourself.'

Veras' murder stunned the Assú community. She was buried Thursday morning.

'She was a very beloved person in the city, as she served our city for years. A very beloved person, a very good professional,' Dilma Peixoto, a former coworker, told G1.

'The entire city was shocked, even people who didn't have a bond of friendship, who didn't know her personally ... We just regret it and hope that justice is done.'
