The entire planet was left stunned after Buckingham Palace dropped the bombshell that the king had cancer in February.

It emerged the monarch had a form of cancer after he underwent surgery for an enlarged prostate at the end of January.

The Palace confirmed that King Charles was not diagnosed with prostate cancer.

At the time, Charles said he was 'wholly positive' about his treatment' and was looking forward to eventually returning to his public duties.

But who are the medical experts taking care of one of the most important men in the world? MailOnline takes a look at the medical team of the cancer-battling King.

The man who is likely overseeing the King's treatment at large is Dr Michael Dixon, who has been head of the Royal Medical Household since 2022

Who is Dr Michael Dixon?

The man believed to be overseeing the monarch's treatment at large is Dr Michael Dixon.

The medical professional has headed the Royal Medical Household since 2022.

Regarding his role within the King's medical team, Dr Dixon oversees and manages the medical professionals taking care of the monarch.

His additional responsibilities include being present at family births and deaths if any were to happen whilst he is acting in the role.

The GP, who is often spotted donning a suit and bow tie, was hired in 2022 and also works part-time in a GP surgery in Devon.

The doctor has previously been a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of GPs as well as a former chair of the NHS Alliance and the College of Medicine.

However, the GP, 71, who has been awarded an OBE for his services to primary care, has been scrutinized on social media for his support of homeopathy.

Dixon has previously retaliated against many who claim the practice is 'quackery' and has also supported treatments like reflexology and aromatherapy being offered on the NHS.

He previously implied Indian herbal remedies, which had been 'ultra-diluted' with alcohol could have the ability to cure cancer in one of his papers.

However Buckingham Palace has denied claims the GP himself thinks the method could cure the disease.

A statement from the palace at the time of his appointment read: 'Dr Dixon does not believe homeopathy can cure cancer.

Indeed, the man who is likely overseeing the King's treatment at large is Dr Michael Dixon, who has been head of the Royal Medical Household since 2022.

'His position is that complementary therapies can sit alongside conventional treatments, provided they are safe, appropriate and evidence based.'

The medical professional has allegedly previously prescribed plants such as devil's claw and horny goat weed to patients.

Dr Dixon has also implied in certain written papers that Christian healers could possibly posses the ability of healing chronically ill people.

Who is the King's Surgeon Dr Ranan Dasgupta?

Another essential clog in the clock that is King Charles' medical team is Ranan Dasgputa.

Mr Dasgputa was appointed as the King's Serjeant Surgeon in March 2023, according to The Telegraph.

The medic, who is a part of the Royal Medical Household, is based in the London Clinic.

According to the London Clinic’s website, he has interests in comprehensive treatments for prostatic enlargement, renal stone management and prevention, neuropathic voiding conditions, and urothelial malignancy.

The urological surgeon is also a Cambridge University graduate, who specialises in treatment methods for enlarged prostates.

He was reportedly an integral part of the team when it came to treating the King's enlarged prostate.

On February 6, it was confirmed by Buckingham Palace that an unspecified form of cancer had been found during his King Charles' treatment.

Charles informed close family by phone, including estranged son Harry later flew back from his home in California to see his father.

The Buckingham Palace statement read: 'During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted.

'Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,' the palace said in a statement.

'His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.

'Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.'

They added: 'The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.

'He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

'His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.'
