Two Alabama mothers were in shock after they gave birth to their babies in the same hospital and named them after an iconic Grammy winning couple.

Mom Sophie Clark welcomed her daughter, June Carter Clark at Huntsville Hospital on April 10, mere meters away from mom Nicole Davis who welcomed her son, Johnny Cash Davis on the same day.

Unknowingly, both moms named their babies after late country singer-songwriters - Johnny Cash and June Carter - who were married from 1968 till their deaths in 2003.

But this surprising coincidence was completely unplanned.

Davis also later said that Johnny Cash was not their family's their first choice but ultimately they decided it was the perfect fit.

'[The baby's] dad's name is Johnny Lee Davis Jr. And we tried on Johnny Lee Davis III for a while and we just could never get comfortable with it, it just never caught.

'So, we had to go back to the drawing board. At first, we thought a lot about Nashville because we love that area, we spend a lot of time up that way, we thought Johnny Nashville at first, or Johnny Nash but then we thought, "Oh wait a minute, Johnny Cash would be perfect and we'll call him Cash"

'We told our co-workers and talked about it with friends and family and everybody agreed Cash is a good name, like that's a great boy name,' the new mother told WOWT

But it was a fortunate elevator ride that brought both families together.

Sophie's husband's uncle was in an elevator ride with Nicole's husband when he noticed that the new dad was wearing a Johnny Cash T-shirt.

After a short conversation, both men realized their newest family members were named after the Grammy winning couple.

The Clarks reportedly told a nurse in the hospital of the coincidence and requested to meet the Davis family, which they quickly agreed to.

Nicole described what happened when the families met and told the channel: 'And they said, "This couple wants to talk to you because their baby is named June Carter."

And I thought, "Well okay, that's the oddest coincidence I’ve ever heard of" but of course we immediately took [the babies] out in the hall and took pictures and exchanged information so that they will always have this cool coincidence to follow them as they grow, and they’ll always have a cool story.

'I just think it’s so fun that in a world where there’s lots of little babies that were born on April 10, these two guys are always gonna have this really fun back story and always have an opportunity to have a friend that they met in an unconventional but really special way.'

Sophie also later told Good Morning America that she was keen on keeping in touch with the Davis family.
