Woman forced to fork out more than $1,000 for bachelorette weekend after maid of honor's insane list of demands

Bachelorette parties in theory sound like a blast - at least, that was one woman's assumption before she actually got involved in one.

The woman, from rural Texas, took to Reddit's Mildly Infuriating forum to vent about the energy and financial commitments she's been asked to make since agreeing to be part of a wedding party two months ago.

'Bachelorette parties. why do they suck so hard now? Why do we need to spend so much money? Why is it all about social media? What happened to just hanging out with your girlfriends?' she titled the post.

For the 'first time' in her life, she explained, she was asked to be in a wedding - and at first was thrilled for the chance to be a part of the festivities.

'"Yay!," I thought. "Of course I would love to be in your wedding!" I said.

'"Oh my f**king god, I've made a mistake!" I thought, two months and $1,000 later.'

She went on to vent that she'd taken the beach theme of the upcoming bachelorette party she was set to attend at face value.

'When I was told we would be going to the beach for the bachelorette party, it was SO SILLY of me to assume that meant we would, y'know, go to the beach! Hang out at the beach! Get dinner at fun restaurants! Get drunk at the beach house and play fun bachelorette games! Oh, how incorrect and naïve I have been.'

The woman then sulked it had been 'borderline demanded' to put down nearly $600 for a variety of baseline expenses, including a series of 'color coordinated outfits,' 'custom' matching pajama sets, trucker hats and tee-shirts - along with house rentals, golf cart rentals, groceries and beyond.

On top of that, she claimed she'd just been hit with a new request, to put down another $125 'for a horse back riding excursion that is an hour away from the beach house.'

This activity had been planned despite that fact the whole group are already horse owners and ride them daily.

She later emphasized that neither she nor the individual attendees were particularly wealthy just because they own horses, explaining: 'I'm not a fancy pants English rider from California, guys. I'm from rural Texas where, like seven out of every 10 people own horses.'

'When I said "I can't afford that, I'm sorry! I'm willing to stay behind though, if y'all want to do that!" I got hit with "well the bride would be so surprised and she would love it."' the woman further fumed.

And all of this would be on top of basic travel costs - with gas for the round-trip drive setting her back around $200 - and taking paid time off from work.

'Also, this trip is the week after a business trip and the week after rent is due,' the woman added. 'I think I'm going insane.'

The woman added the maid of honor was the one making all of the arrangements and requesting reimbursements from the guests.

'MOH wants all of it to be a surprise for the bride - I genuinely do not think bride would be okay with it if she knew how much it was costing, lol.'

While she's tried to push back on some of the expenses, she admitted: 'My pushback is going over like a fart in church, if you were wondering.'

Thousands took to the comments to commiserate with the pricey demands of being involved in a friend's wedding.

'And nothing of this includes the costs of attending the wedding yet!' one pointed out.

To this, the woman added 'NOPE. That's another $125 bridesmaid dress, $??? Airbnb rental stay, hair/makeup, etc.'

'Not just expensive but wasteful! Custom stuff for only a couple of days. Sure, who cares what pajamas look like but $30 for a hat probably labelled "bridesmaid"?' a second argued.

'It's funny because most of these items aren't absurd on their own. But the combination of all of them? GTFO. Bride and/or Maid of Honor got confused and thinks they live in a big screen romcom, where everyone is just ambiguously wealthy for no reason,' a third speculated.

As a fourth put it: 'I miss the days when it was maybe just a kitchen tea and then a night out.'
