Fans of Justin Bieber today told of their fears that the singer's social media meltdown is linked to his childhood friendship with embattled US rapper P Diddy.

The singer, 30, sparked concern over the weekend by posting a series of selfies on Instagram showing him in tears.

In one the forlorn singer stared straight down the camera looking thoroughly dejected with a tear rolling down his cheek.

The photos prompted some fans to suggested that a split between the Canadian musician and his wife Hailey, 27, was to blame.

But others say reminders of his friendship with hip hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs, may have increased the emotional pressure on fragile Bieber in recent weeks.

Coombs, 54, is currently under US Federal investigation into alleged sex trafficking.

Footage of Combs hanging out with a 15-year-old Bieber resurfaced last month after the rapper's homes were raided in connection to the investigation.

And fans fear disturbing video clips circulating online have prompted the sudden deterioration in his wellbeing.

Amid the police investigation, a 14-year-old video from Bieber's YouTube channel re-emerged in which Diddy talks about spending '48-hours' with the 'Baby' singer.

The 'creepy' segment from when Bieber was 15 and Combs aged 39, shows Diddy telling the camera the pair will be spending 48 hours together in his LA home, but he can't divulge exactly what they would be doing.

The clip began with Combs talking to Bieber about driving. 'As soon as you turn 16, you know what I'm saying, I'm going to let you rock this every time you come in LA,' Combs tells Bieber while showing him a Lamborghini under a tarpaulin.

Combs removes the cover and Bieber tells him: 'I mean, I'm 15; you could ride in the passenger's seat. I got my permit,'.

'You're not ready yet,' Combs tells Bieber. 'Slow down. Slow down, Justin.'

Combs tells the camera. 'You ever see the movie 48 Hours? Right now, he's having 48 hours with Diddy, him and his boy, they're having the times of their lives.

'Where we hanging out and what we doing; we can't really disclose. But it's definitely a 15-year-old's dream. I have been given custody of him.'

Combs adds that Bieber was signed to Usher's label at the time. 'I had legal guardianship of Usher when he did his first album; I did Usher's first album,' Combs tells Bieber. 'I don't have legal guardianship of [Justin], but for the next 48 hours, he's with me.'

Combs says he and Bieber would go 'buck full crazy' during their time together.

As for what Bieber wanted to do with the time, he says, 'Let's go get some girls.'

'Man after my heart,' Combs says. 'That's what I'm talking about.'

In another clip Diddy and Bieber are together in a recording studio, where Bieber was believed to be recording his 2010 debut album My World 2.0.

'What's up man, you good?' Combs asks Bieber, who looks uncomfortable as the older musician looks at him from behind tinted sunglasses. 'Selling out arenas and everything? Starting to act different, huh? You haven't been calling me and hanging out the way we used to hang out.'

Bieber shuffles his feet and mumbles: 'Well I mean, you haven't... you tried to get in contact with me through all my, you know, my partners and whatnot, but you never really got my number. So, you want my number? I'm gonna tell you my number.'

Another 26-second clip from several years later was taken at a party and a woman can be heard saying: 'Happy birthday Justin!'

Diddy passed Justin a bottle before the singer got down on one knee and drinks from it. The clip then cuts to other moments at the party of Justin and Diddy dancing and cameras flashing.

It's believed the video was taken between 2015 and 2016, making Justin in his late teens.

Justin and Hailey tied the knot in 2018, and they've since frequently been met with rumours of marital trouble.

Speculation was recently reignited by Hailey's father Stephen Baldwin, who posted about 'special challenges' the couple were facing in a since-deleted post on Instagram in February.

The Usual Suspects actor, 57, asked for 'a little prayer for them to have wisdom, protection, and draw close to the Lord.'

After a source told TMZ that Hailey was upset with her father over the comment, the Drop the Mic star has since made several efforts to shut down the subsequent rumours.

While celebrating her groom's 30th birthday last month, Hailey shared a throwback photo from her and Justin's wedding with a sweet tribute.

As well as the criminal investigation, Diddy has also been the defendant in several recent sexual abuse lawsuits.

In a lawsuit Combs settled the day after it was filed in November, his former protégé and girlfriend, the R&B singer Cassie, sued him alleging years of sexual abuse, including rape. The lawsuit said he forced her to have sex with male prostitutes while he filmed them.

In February, a music producer filed a lawsuit alleging Combs coerced him to solicit prostitutes and pressured him to have sex with them. Another of Combs' accusers was a woman who said he raped her two decades ago when she was 17.

Combs and his attorneys have denied all of the allegations in the lawsuits.

Following the Federal raids, Combs' representatives released a, branding them a 'gross overuse of military level' force.

'Yesterday, there was a gross overuse of military-level force as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs' residences,' the statement said.

'There is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated. Mr. Combs was never detained but spoke to and cooperated with authorities. Despite media speculation, neither Mr. Combs nor any of his family members have been arrested, nor has their ability to travel been restricted in any way'
