Amy Schumer has addressed the comments she received about her 'puffy face,' which was caused by the hormonal disorder Cushing's syndrome.

The 42-year-old announced her diagnosis in February, after fans raised concerns about her appearance and made her realize 'something was wrong.'

Her condition means that her body has been producing too much cortisol - also known as the stress hormone - over an extended period of time.

Now she has spoken candidly about overcoming her self-consciousness after social media users pointed out the changes to her face.

'The people who like me are not going to care if my face is puffy. Everyone has moments of self-doubt. I rose up and was like: "F*** it, let’s go,"' she told Variety.

Amy faced a deluge of social media comments about her looks in February, after she made multiple public appearances with her face appearing swollen.

In response to the remarks she received, she decided to disclose that she had been diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome.

'It has been a crazy couple weeks for me and my family,' she told journalist Jessica Yellin on her Substack page News Not Noise.

'Aside from fears about my health, I also had to be on camera having the internet chime in. But thank God for that. Because that's how I realized something was wrong,' the I Feel Pretty star noted.

'While I was doing press on camera for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up.'

Amy shares a four-year-old son called David with her husband, chef Chris Fischer, whom she has been married to since 2018.

'So finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I'm healthy was the greatest news imaginable,' she said.

She decided to go public with her illness in order to be an 'advocate for women's health,' and because the 'shaming and criticism of our ever-changing bodies is something I have dealt with and witnessed for a long time.'

The Trainwreck star pointed out that her Cushing's syndrome could serve as 'a good example of the fact that we never know what is going on with someone.'

Elsewhere in her new cover interview with Variety, Amy remarked on the projects she has in the pipeline, such as her Netflix comedy Kinda Pregnant.

Amy plays a woman who starts wearing a false baby bump out of envy for a pregnant friend - only for the charade to be thrown into jeopardy when she falls in love.

She declared: 'I’m striving for it to be one of the 10 funniest movies of my lifetime. I think it’s going to be as funny as Trainwreck.'

The Emmy-winning comic also discussed her Hulu dramedy Life And Beth, which has seen her take on multiple creative responsibilities.

In addition to starring as the title character, she also created the series, acts as one of the executive producers and directs some episodes.

'This is a very different project for me, because I wear so many hats,' she said. 'I’m learning more and getting better at it, and it makes me feel like I’m on the right path.'

Amy also confessed that her planned comedy with Jennifer Lawrence, in which the two women would play sisters, is now unlikely to be made.

The two actresses went viral in 2015 for their friendship, and publicly revealed then that they were co-writing a movie starring them as siblings.

Now, however, Amy has thrown cold water on the idea, saying: 'I don’t think it will ever happen. It was just, like, life kept going. My family was going through a rough time. I don’t want to say any more than that.'

She still hopes to work with Jennifer, explaining: 'The way we’re hoping our careers go, we might do something with more grit and teeth.'

Jennifer concurred, saying: 'Now that we’re older, a sister comedy might not resonate as much. But we have every intention of working together.'
