The Kansas City Chiefs are said to be bracing themselves to be without star wide receiver Rashee Rice for a lengthy spell next season.

Rice, 24, surrendered to police last month after he and another driver of a speeding sports car allegedly caused a crash involving a half-dozen vehicles on a Dallas highway in March.

The Super Bowl winner is facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury.

But Rice is also expected to face disciplinary action from the NFL with the wideout set to be suspended by the league, according to NFL insider James Palmer.

The reigning Super Bowl champions are expecting Rice to be suspended for 'half a season at least', the reporter claimed during an appearance on retired receiver Steve Smith's podcast, Agent 89 Breakdown show.

Rice's role in Reid's offense grew as last season went on and, alongside Travis Kelce, he became one of Patrick Mahomes' most trusted targets down the stretch.

But his pending legal issues after the car crash in Dallas may mean he misses a large chunk of next season.

The Chiefs took speedy Texas’ Xavier Worthy with the No. 28 pick at Thursday’s NFL Draft in Detroit to fill the potential hole.

The Chiefs were supposed to pick last in the first round after winning their second consecutive Super Bowl, but they managed to make a trade with one of their biggest AFC rivals in Buffalo. The Chiefs sent the No. 32 pick, along with a fourth-rounder and seventh-rounder, to the Bills for No. 28, a fourth-rounder and a seventh-rounder.

Rice is reportedly being sued for $10million by two people involved in the Kansas City Chiefs star's Dallas car crash.

According to TMZ, Edvard Petrovskiy and Irina Gromova filed a lawsuit in Dallas County last week - claiming the crash caused them injuries.

The two plaintiffs say that Rice and Theodore Knox, who were racing each other on the highway, lost control due to reckless actions.

They also claim that Rice and Knox left the scene of the accident without checking with those impacted by the wreck.

In the filing, Petrovskiy and Gromova claim that some of the victims were 'severely injured, bleeding, and visibly distressed.'

They're suing both Knox and Rice for $10million in punitive damages and claim they suffered from brain trauma, lacerations that required stitches, and internal bleeding.

Both Petrovskiy and Gromova are also seeking compensatory damages for medical bills, mental anguish, and property damage among other things.

Rice's attorney, Royce West, says that his client is taking responsibility for his actions, cooperating with law enforcement, and will make whole anyone who was injured or had damaged property in the wreck.
