A little girl battling blood cancer was surprised with a heartwarming performance by a school orchestra - who composed a private piece for her after hearing a story she wrote about her journey.
Quincy Fitzgerald, five, has been fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia for the past two years.
After dozens of chemotherapy sessions and doctor visits, Quincy and her 7-year-old sister Josie wrote a short story about their experience.
This story caught the attention of the North Kansas City High School orchestra. After hearing about Quincy's journey, the orchestra decided to compose music just for her.
Quincy's mom was touched by the heartfelt gesture. 'It just kind of gives you hope and it gives you comfort,' Fitzgerald said to Live5News.

Quincy and her mom were surprised with a sneak peak of the band's heartwarming performance on Tuesday morning.
The piece is called 'Many Sides of the Portal' and it took two months for composer Jeremy Litster to complete.
The North Kansas City School heard of Quincy's story through the Sing Me A Story Foundation, an organization of songwriters that bring children's stories to life with music.
The band reached out to a former student to compose music to it, and the class learned how to play it, as reported by the outlet.
It is set to make its public debut next week.

'You get this type of diagnosis and you don't know,' Katie said to Live5News. 'When you see others come out of the woodwork and just kind of lift you up, it's really incredible.'
Quincy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in March of 2022.
The family created a GoFundMe page to help fundraise towards any expenses incurred from Quincy's upcoming treatments.
'It was honestly a whirlwind,' Quincy's mom wrote about the day she was told about the diagnosis. 'Days ran into each other, it was so fast.'
'Started with blood work, moved to a bone marrow scan. On March 24th it was determined she had Leukemia (lymphoblast B Lymphocyte). The 25th, she underwent a procedure to get a port put in.'

'While being under anesthesia they did a lumbar puncture to test for leukemia in spinal fluid (they did not find any) and immediately injected chemo into her spine just to make sure no cells were hiding.'
'She had her first in clinic treatment on Monday and will go again Friday. She will go every Friday for the next 4 weeks and hopefully will be able to move to a more maintenance type plan after,' she wrote.
