After shooting her dog Kristi Noem faces questions over claims she met Kim Jong Un and that Nikki Haley 'threatened' her

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem continues to be in the doghouse over anecdotes shared in her forthcoming book.

She received widespread criticism over a story about how she shot her 14-month-old wirehaired pointer Cricket after he failed at pheasant hunting and killed her neighbor's chickens.

Now two other tales appear to be of the tall variety, according to Politico.

First that Noem, as a congresswoman, came face-to-face with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un

And second, that now former 2024 presidential hopeful Nikki Haley called up Noem in 2021 and 'threatened' her.

Kristi Noem wrote that she met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un (left) while serving in the House of Representatives, which appears to be false. She also said Nikki Haley (right) called her in 2021 and 'threatened' her

Noem writes in No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward that 'Through my tenure on the House Armed Service Committee, I had the chance to travel to many countries to meet with world leaders.'

'I remember when I met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un,' she said. 'I'm sure he underestimated me, having no clue about my experience staring down little tyrants (I'd been a children's pastor, after all).'

While former President Donald Trump met with Kim on three occasions during his presidency, Noem served in the Congress from 2007 to 2011, when relations were frosty.

When Politico brought up how improbable this meeting would be, Noem's spokesperson appeared to concede it was fiction.

'We've been made aware that the publisher will be addressing conflated world leaders' names in the book before it is released,' said spokesperson Ian Fury.

Noem also said that she received a phone call from Haley during the summer of 2021.

At this point, Haley was in the private sector and was among the former Trump administration officials to have spoken out against his actions on January 6.

Noem was halfway through her first term.

The South Dakota governor said that Haley told her she was 'more than willing to be a mentor.'

'After what seemed to me a bit of an awkward pause, she added, "I … just … also want you to know one more thing … I've heard a lot of really good things about you. But I also want you to know that if I hear something bad … I will be sure to let you know,"' Noem claimed Haley said.

Noem said she interpreted what Haley had said as a threat.

'I think I was just threatened by Nikki Haley?' Noem recalled calling her assistant and sharing. 'Yeah, I'm pretty sure I was just threatened by Nikki Haley. It was clear that she wanted me to know that there was only room for one Republican woman in the spotlight. It was weird.'

What was weirder is that Haley's spokeperson had no record of it.

Spokesperson Chaney Denton looked back in the former U.N. ambassador's calendar and found Haley had called Noem in 2020, not 2021.

'Nikki has long called and written notes supporting other women when they go through challenging times,' Denton told Politico. 'She called Gov. Noem in 2020 to encourage her when she was criticized for keeping her state open during COVID.'

'How she would twist that into a threat is just plain weird,' Denton said.

In a statement to DailyMail.com Fury placed blame on Noem's ghostwriter.

'It was brought to our attention that the upcoming book "No Going Back" has two small errors,' Fury said Friday. 'This has been communicated to the ghostwriter and editor.'

'Kim Jong Un was included in a list of world leaders and shouldn't have been. The Governor spoke with Nikki Haley in 2020 and met with her in 2021,' he added.

Fury said since the book won't be released until May 7, future editions will be corrected.

'The media will, of course, try and make these tiny issues huge but will continue to downplay Joe Biden’s repeated and false claims he was in jail with Nelson Mandela, started the civil rights movement, drove an 18 wheeler, and his uncle was eaten by cannibals,' Fury also offered.
