From a snack-loving monkey nicknamed 'Mr Fatty' to a two-stone cat that is often mistaken for a dog, not all animals are as cute and fluffy as the ones we have come to know and love.

Although obesity is not normally a problem faced by the animal kingdom, some creatures have become social media sensations purely through their indulgent eating habits.

Others have ballooned to their enormous size through muscle weight alone, hitting the international headlines by showing off their toned physiques.

Here, MailOnline takes you 'inside the world's chunkiest animals' with a selection of creatures whose SIZE has found them in the spotlight in recent years - despite it often having devastating consequences for their health.

Roger the Kangaroo

Roger, who stood at 200 centimetres tall, became an internet sensation back in 2015 when pictures surfaced of his bulging biceps, popping veins and prominent chest.

The red kangaroo lived in a sanctuary in Alice Springs, Australia, where he crushed metal buckets with his paws for fun.

However, despite his toned physique, Roger was not able to defeat the aging process and he suffered from arthritus towards the end of his life.

The kangaroo died at the age of 12 in December 2018 with sanctuary boss, Chris 'Brolga' Barnes posting an emotional tribute to him on Facebook

'It's a very sad day here today for we have lost our beautiful boy, Roger,' Mr Barnes said.

'Ten years ago, I built this sanctuary to house Roger and a couple of his wives, Ella (and) Abigail. We built it so they'd have a place to live.

'Roger was our alpha male for many years and he grew up to be a kangaroo that people from all over the world have grown to love as much as we love him too.'

Uncle Fatty and Godzilla

Weighing in at more than 20kg, legendary chunky monkeys Uncle Fatty and Godzilla shot to fame due to their life of indulgence - despite it having devastating consequences for their health.

Cruelly kept on a lead and raised on a diet of junk food, Godzilla's weight ballooned to more than 20kg, and he became a major tourist attraction at his owner's market stall in Bangkok, Thailand.

He soon drew comparisons with Uncle Fatty, another popular overweight primate, who had tipped the scales at 27kg and was believed to be between 10 and 15 years old.

The monkeys were then forced into 'fat camp' were they were able to shift some weight on strict diet regimes.

But after returning to the wild, and having not been seen in years, Uncle Fatty is now widely believed to have eaten himself to death.

Uncle Fatty once lived near a tourist hotspot floating water market in Bangkok, where he enjoyed a lavish lifestyle.

The elderly monkey was popular with locals and tourists alike, gobbling any food that he good get his paws on.

But the abundance of food offered to him by visitors, which included sugary melons and sweetcorn as well as extremely unhealthy human food like milkshakes and noodles, meant he piled on the pounds.

With macaques normally weigh between eight and 10kg, the 27kg beast was the same weight as three of his kind.

Abu the 18 stone dog

Abu, a Turkish Malakli, weighs 18 stone - around the same as a baby elephant - and has previously been described as the UK's biggest dog.

When he was two years old, he ate 3kg of meat a day, including one whole chicken, three whole mackerel, two eggs, and raw meat dog food.

His monster diet was costing his owner, Dylan Shaw, from Redcar, Yorkshire, more than £4,000 a year.

Speaking about his diet, Dylan said: 'He has raw meat, raw dog food, and whole chickens as well – he gets one chicken per day.

'He's very energetic when he's out but in the house you don't know he's there until you trip over him.

'When he's stood on all fours his shoulders come above my hips – I'm five foot 11, and he makes me look like a child stood next to him.

'He thinks he's a lot smaller than he is, he tries to sit on your lap and crushes you but he's a big softy really, he cries when he gets told off.

'They don't fully mature until three so he's still got a year of growing to do - it's ridiculous, I don't know what I'm going to end up with - he's already outgrown my expectations.'

But despite his big size, Dylan insisted that Abu was a gentle giant and loves nothing more than snuggling on the sofa.

Kefir the two-stone cat

Kefir, a two-stone cat from Russia, is so big that people often mistake him for a dog.

Named after the fermented milk drink, Kefir is an oversized Maine Coon belonging to Yulia Minina in Stary Oskol.

Yulia said: 'I could not even think that an ordinary baby can become so big.

'He not only grew up big in appearance, he is also very smart and always behaves calmly.

'The look is generally like that of a person, and Kefir has a formidable appearance, but he is a very affectionate and modest child.

'When friends and acquaintances come to the house - all the attention is on him and he willingly allows himself to be stroked.'
