Undisputedly the hottest night in fashion - the Met Gala 2024 is set to take hold in just a few hours and will welcome some of the world's biggest entertainers and VIPs.
Nicknamed 'fashion's biggest night out', the glamorous fundraising gala holds at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City on the first Monday in May, with this year's spectacle taking place on the 6th.
Yet the cult event has become renown for its stylish extravagance, with past invitees like Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Doja Cat shocking the world with their uncensored style.
Of course the most wanted fashion ticket in town - scratch that the world - would be a miss without enormous pressure on glitterati to carve out fashion history with just one look.
In past years Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian and Lil Nas X - who showed up in nothing but a skintight silver thong last year - have caused quite a stir with their eccentric wardrobe choices.
Katy Perry: The Roar singer's look was hot off the press - in more ways than one - when in 2019 she rocked a chandelier look with accompanying candle-style light bulbs. The outfit was the star's answer to the theme: 'Camp: Notes on Fashion'
Doja Cat: In 2023 the gala asked its guests to pay homage to designer Karl Lagerfield who passed away in 2019 from pancreatic cancer. The theme was 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty' - prompting the rapper to pay tribute to his cat, Choupette. The stunning feline-inspired hooded gown was designed by Oscar de la Renta
Similarly, in 1996, a newly divorced Princess Diana sent shockwaves through the globe when she opted to go braless in a £10,000 midnight blue Dior dress.
Tonight, the gala will have Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Zendaya and Chris Hemsworth as fashion co-chairs, along with Anna Wintour who has served as chair since 1995.
As excitement brews for the star-studded affair, FEMAIL takes a look back at the celebs who didn't disappoint and along the way have forged the most memorable looks in fashion.
Princess Diana: In 1996 a newly-divorced Diana attended the Met Gala in a Dior midnight blue dress, trimmed with black lace. The gown - rumoured to cost £10,000 - was the sensation of the night. John Galliano, Dior's new designer, said that Diana had deliberately removed the interior bustier from the dress as 'it was a reflection of how she was already feeling'
Rihanna: The singer and mother-of two, 36, topped fashion lists in this delicately beaded ensemble by Maison Margiela complete with mitre and cropped cope. The stunning look was chosen for the gala's 2018 theme - 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination'
Blake Lively: Also in 2018, the star actress turned heads across the globe in this gilded bodice and a sheer-panelled crimson skirt designed by Atelier Versace
Kim Kardashian: The reality superstar, 43, carved out a memorable fashion moment in this Balenciaga number, but the outfit choice has since received mixed reviews. The all black look, worn in 2021, included a face-concealing balaclava
Lady Gaga: In 2019 the Poker Face popstar commanded attention by stripping off layer after layer of haute couture clothing, all the way down to her sequined underwear. The star originally wore a fuchsia pink cape gown designed by Brandon Maxwell before undressing to reveal her lingerie
Cardi B: Also in 2019 The I Like It rapper struck a new chord in the fashion world when she donned this extravagant wine red number. The flamboyant gown - designed by Moschino - was complete with huge feathered shoulders and a jewelled red headpiece
Beyoncé: The megastar turned heads in a striking see-through Givenchy number when she attended the Met Gala with husband Jay Z back in 2015. The theme was China: Through the Looking Glass
Lil Nas X: The controversial singer showed up to the Met Gala last year in nothing but a skintight silver thong to celebrate the theme: 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty'. The silver body paint and encrusted jewels emphasised his sculpted physique
Jaden Smith: In 2017 the superstar son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett famously quipped 'Since I couldn't bring my sister as a date, I brought my old hair'. To celebrate the 'Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between' theme, the star, 25, donned a Louis Vuitton suit and heeled boots - and accessorised with his shaved dreadlocks
David and Victoria Beckham: Known for her impeccable style, Victoria opted for a sleek Giorgio Armani lace dress with silver strappy sandals despite 2008's theme being named as 'Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy'. David attended the gala in a suave black suit by the same designer
Rihanna: Years before she would go on to become a household name, the singing sensation made waves at her second ever Met Gala. Dressed in a fresh-off-the-runway Dolce & Gabbana suit, black leather gloves and donning a cropped haircut, the look became one of the most memorable of 2009
Billy Porter: The American Horror Story: Apocalypse star, 54, stunned onlookers as he was carried by six shirtless men draped in gold Ancient Egyptian-inspired chokers, necklaces, face masks and jeans back in 2019
Jared Leto: 2019 saw many shocking firsts, including the actor's wild accessory - a sculpture of his head. Wearing Alessandro Michele for Gucci, the actor made a memorable mark in the red satin bejewelled number
Zendaya: Never one to shy away from best-dressed lists, the actress caused a stir in this illuminated Cinderella gown custom made by Tommy Hilfiger. The look was Zendaya's interpretation of the gala's 'Camp: Notes on Fashion' theme
Kate Moss: In 2009 the theme was 'The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion' which Kate Moss made utterly memorable in this shimmering Marc Jacobs open-back mini dress
