Kylie Minogue gave the Met Gala's Sleeping Beauties theme a modern twist on Monday after arriving in stunning bold glam. 

The Australian pop star, 55, looked regal in a transparent devoré denim knit gown made for her by Diesel.

While the denim elements gave the Padam Padam hitmaker a modern edge, Kylie's dress honored the spirit of fairytale princesses with thousands of micro crystals stitched into the fabric. 

She paired the fun ensemble with a diamond ring, silver heels and a wavy hairstyle with a side part - but one of the most striking elements of her look was her amazing red lip, which was done by makeup artist Daniel Sallstrom.

'For both me and Glenn Martens it was important that Kylie really felt like herself,' Sallstrom told DailyMail.com.

'When creating the look, I took inspiration from her noughties days with the sultry sexy eyes and the iconic red lip Kylie is known for,' he explained.

Sallstrom worked 'very closely' with the artist to make sure that she felt beautiful and comfortable on the big day. 

But in order to make sure that the makeup didn't take away from the overall look, the makeup artist said that the team had to make sure to respect and listen to each other.

'The makeup was sexy and strong but not overpowering,' he told DailyMail.com. 

'I think for the Met Gala it's easy to make the mistake and go overboard on everything,' he continued. 'Sometimes the key is to take a step back and edit it down.'

To create her glammed-up look, Sallstrom used products exclusively from MAC Cosmetics, revealing that the 'star of the show' for Minogue's makeup was the red lip, made possible by the brand's Red Rock MACximal lipstick.

And, to make sure that her makeup lasted all night long, he shared that there were a few important products to have in the arsenal - skin prep, long-lasting foundation, and some powder. 

However, overdoing it with powder can 'easily build up and dehydrate' the skin, so it's great to have a small amount of blotting powder for long events. 

Sallstrom explained that skin prep is especially important, because your products need a good base to adhere to.

For a long event, he recommends keeping blot powder, lip liner and lipstick, and a little concealer stick in your bag for a refresh. 

And, from the looks of it, Minogue's makeup didn't waver - especially as she stunned on the red carpet. 

The ensemble, designed by fashion brand Diesel's creative director Glenn Martens, glittered as the cameras flashed.

Speaking to Vogue earlier, Martens said:  'It's meant to look as though Kylie has been sleeping in this dress for hundreds of years. Leaving parts of the fabric dissolved around her body's contours.'

The Costume Institute's spring exhibition falls on the first Monday in May every year and is held at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This year the event was titled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion while the dress code was The Garden of Time.

Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth were this year's co-chairs. Also on the committee is Vogue's Anna Wintour.

The honorary chairs for the evening are Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew.

'This year's co-chairs reflect a variety of career achievements, and all have distinct style histories with the Met Gala,' Vogue shared.

The showcase will feature approximately 250 items drawn from The Costume Institute's permanent collection - with many of the pieces too fragile to ever be worn again.

The pieces will all be displayed using elements such as AI, GCI, and more while playing up themes of land, sea, and sky. 

'It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,' said Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, of the upcoming exhibition. 

'One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.'

Last year's gala honored late designer Karl Lagerfeld.
