The woman who plunged 136ft to her death during The Ohio State University commencement ceremony was the mother of a graduating student, it has emerged.

Larissa Brady, 53, was pronounced dead just outside Ohio Stadium in Columbus around midday Sunday after having fallen from the stands to the pavement below.

Brady, of Woodstock, Georgia, fell near the stadium's Bell Tower as graduates were filing in for the ceremony. Her death is being investigated as an apparent suicide, according to records from the Franklin County Coroner's Office.

The commencement continued without mention of what happened, but some students and others at the ceremony were visibly upset after the fall.

A university spokesman said Ohio State has contacted all graduates and staff who volunteered at graduation to offer counseling services.

According to the commencement program, Brady's daughter was receiving her bachelor's degree during the ceremony.

Emergency services were called at around 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon after Brady fell from the stands at the football stadium.

'I need medics and some officers at gate 30 (of Ohio Stadium)... had one fall off the stadium', the caller said to 911 dispatch.

Investigation into how she fell from the stadium continues, but Ohio State police do not suspect foul play and believe the fall was not accidental, university spokesperson Ben Johnson said Tuesday.

Brady spoke to her daughter as she entered the stadium, an investigative report from the Franklin County Coroner's Office, which was obtained by The Columbus Dispatch, has revealed.

She then went into the stands with her husband and 12-year-old son to watch the commencement.

After she was seated, Brady told her family she wanted to relocate to a higher part of the stands, according to the report, and her family lost sight of her.

Witnesses told police that Brady then went over to the last row of benches in section C30 and climbed over the stadium's concrete wall, the coroner's report states.

Brady had been suffering from mental health issues and reportedly attempted suicide at least twice before. Her husband also told investigators that she had 'not been compliant' with her medications.

Neither university officials nor the commencement speakers, which included social entrepreneur and OSU alum Chris Pan, referenced the incident during the ceremony.

Johnson, OSU's spokesperson, issued a statement to the media on Tuesday confirming the incident.

'Ohio State is grieving the death of Larissa Brady, a family member of one of our graduates,' he said. 'Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this exceptionally difficult time.'

The university has since contacted all graduates and staff who volunteered at the ceremony and offered counseling services, Johnson added.

Witnesses recalled how they saw the person fall just as graduates were entering the stadium in the southeast corner, using a tunnel usually used by football players during OSU home games.

A reporter for the Columbus Dispatch said people in the stands who had seen the fall were visibly upset.

On social media those who were present at the ceremony claimed the person who fell, did so deliberately.

'News and campus keep saying 'fell,' witnesses say 'jumped'. There was no yelling, no scream, they jumped', wrote a TikTok user named Lexi.

'They aren't 100% sure but yes witnesses said the person jumped from what I've heard', added Chelsie. 'I know people who saw and heard it. Awful for everyone involved.

'I was there, I worked there today and heard about it an hour after I happened. They just kept moving with the day like nothing happened', stated another social media user named Kellie.
