The family of a rising cycling star who was shot dead in 2022 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her convicted killer, who is currently serving a 90-year sentence.
The suit comes nearly two years after Anna Moriah 'Mo' Wilson, 25, was fatally shot in the heart by yoga teacher Kaitlin Armstrong in what prosecutors describe as a jealous fit of rage.
An Austin jury found Armstrong, 35, was guilty of murdering the cyclist last year. She was sentenced to 90 years behind bars and a $10,000 fine.
Wilson's parents, who reside in Vermont, filed the lawsuit in Travis County court on May 6. They seek $1 million, with the provision that they will 'ultimately ask that a jury determine the full value and extent of damages'.
Among the damages listed in the suit are funeral expenses, 'loss of society and companionship' that the Wilsons have suffered, and the 'conscious pain and suffering and mental anguish' their daughter experienced before her death.

Armstrong killed Wilson in 2022, in what prosecutors describe as a 'jealous fit of rage' stemming from Wilson's relationship with the killer's on-again, off-again boyfriend
Speaking to CBS Austin, attorney Randy Howry said the purpose of the suit goes beyond compensation.
'The process is about getting a judgment against her such that if she gets a movie deal, a book deal, a TV deal, and money is coming into her account in some way or another, then our judgment will stand in the way of her getting that money and enjoying it to her personal benefit,' he said.
Wilson, a rising star in the world of gravel cycling, was sexually involved with Armstrong's boyfriend, Colin Strickland, after the couple broke up.
Even after Strickland and Armstrong got back together, he maintained contact with Wilson, changing her contact name in his phone to hide their entanglement.
In May 2022, Wilson traveled to the Texas capital for a race and planned to meet Strickland for dinner.
Armstrong followed them to the restaurant. Her Black Jeep was caught on surveillance video circling the block.
After the meal, Strickland drove Wilson to her friend's apartment, where she was staying. Surveillance video showed Armstrong pulling up outside and firing three gunshots, followed by Wilson's screams.
The yoga teacher fled after becoming the prime suspect in Wilson's death and went under the knife while on the lam.

After being named as the prime suspect in the 25-year-old's death, Armstrong went on the run, undergoing a rose job and brow lift in Costa Rica. She managed to evade police for 43 days after getting surgery and dyeing her hair
She was convicted for Wilson's murder in 2023 and sentenced to 90 years behind bars plus a $10,000 fine
But Armstrong filed a motion for a new trial in December of that year. Her lawyer painted her as a victim of sexual abuse and neglectful parents in the filing, asserting that she was pregnant 'during or near the time of her arrest'
She flew to New York City and then to Costa Rica using her sister's passport, just days before the Austin Police Department issued an arrest warrant.
When she landed in Central America, Armstrong contacted a plastic surgeon under the name Allison Paige.
She underwent a nose job, brow lift and dyed her hair, managing to stay on the run for 43 days before police caught up with her.
Armstrong made other attempts to evade custody. In October 2023, she ran off while attending a doctor's appointment with two deputies.
The pursuit lasted about 10 minutes before Armstrong was swiftly detained, according to a police spokesperson.
An affidavit for escape causing bodily injury was filed days later, but the charge - a second-degree felony - was dropped.
In December of that year, the yoga teacher filed a motion for a new trial.
Court documents reviewed by DailyMail.com reveal that Armstrong was pregnant 'during or near the time of her arrest'.
'Considering the sentence here was for 90 years and a maximum fine, there should be no question that this mitigating evidence would have resulted in a more lenient punishment,' her attorney wrote.
The document painted Armstrong as a victim of sexual abuse and the daughter of an alcoholic mother and absent father.
However, the bid for sympathy is lost on the relatives of the woman she killed.
Wilson's mother directly addressed Armstrong moments after her sentencing. 'When you shot Moriah in the heart, you shot me in the heart,' she said.
