Elon Musk has shared the bizarre way he gets to sleep every night.

The Tesla boss revealed that he enjoys listening to podcasts about one of his greatest fears to help him nod off.

Musk, 52, told the Milken Global Conference in Los Angeles that he likes to listen to series, 'about the fall of civilizations' to get to sleep.

However, he also revealed that the topic is one of his biggest anxieties.

'Anything that's a civilizational risk,' Musk said when asked what his greatest concerns are, the Independent reports.

He has previously spoken about his worries about plummeting birthrates.

Other potential threats keeping him up at night include, 'anything that undermines the foundations of democracy in America or elsewhere' or 'anything that's leading us away from a merit-based system', he told the conference on Monday.

The entrepreneur also stated a 'single world government' could lead to societal collapse.

Musk stated that he believes humans will need to merge with machines to avoid becoming obsolete.

It is a principle he has taken into practice at his Neuralink company, which has transplanted its first brain chip into a human test subject.

Noland Arbaugh, 29, had the device implanted more than 100 days ago and is still doing well, according to an update from the company.

Arbaugh suffered a life-changing driving accident whilst working as a camp counselor in 2016, which left him with 'absolutely no feeling' from the shoulders down.

However, he said the chip had given him a new lease of life by allowing him to independently operate computers to communicate and play video games.

Among his apocalyptic obsessions are concerns over plummeting birth rates, threats to democracy and the power of AI

Another of Musk's fears lies in 'deep AI' which is much smarter than the greatest minds on earth.

He previously cautioned against the 'dangerous' situation, predicting that 'AI will be smarter than any human by the end of 2025'.

On Monday he repeated the sentiments and stressed the importance of developing AI 'in a way that is beneficial to humanity'.

'The AI should not be taught to lie, it should not be taught to say things that are not true. Even if those things are politically incorrect, it should still say what it believes to be true,' he said.

His remarks also exhibit his longstanding commitment to free speech, a principle which motivated him to purchase Twitter, now known as X, back in 2022.

The South-African entrepreneur has been outspoken in his belief that censorship is threatening democracy.

He recently hit out at plans in Canada for laws which could see victims of hate speech able to apply for financial compensation as 'insane'
