An alleged New Jersey deadbeat dad was comforted by ER staff shortly before leaving his 'chronically abused' son to die surrounded by strangers in a hospital.

Surveillance footage has exposed the moment a seemingly distraught Christopher Gregor, 31, was comforted by multiple hospital employees after his six-year-old son was taken to hospital.

ER workers were unaware that Gregor's alleged abuse had landed his son, Corey Micciolo, in a hospital bed in the first place.

After having a meltdown outside Corey's room at Southern Ocean Medical Center on April 2, 2021, Gregor went into his son's room for less than a minute before leaving again to be comforted by nurses as he hunched over a chair.

Gregor, who has turned down a 30-year plea offer, then left the hospital at 4:36 pm and his young son tragically died 27 minutes later alone in the emergency room surrounded by strangers.

Gregor is accused of beating his son to death - after Corey's cause of death was ruled by a medical examiner to be a result of blunt force injuries from chronic abuse.

Shocking footage was shown in Gregor's murder trial of the father forcing his little boy to run on a treadmill because he was 'too fat'. In the gym's CCTV footage, Corey was repeatedly flung from the fast-moving equipment as Gregor continued to thrust him back on.

According to testimony in court from Lindsay Carnevale, a nurse treating Corey on the day of his death, Gregor was emotionless when she first encountered him at the hospital.

Prosecutor Christine Lento asked Carnevale, 'Who stayed with Corey?'

She responded, 'We did. We were the only ones with him,' for those last nine minutes of Micciolo's life.

Gregor allegedly told staff that his son's horrific bruising was from riding his bike and playing football, Carnevale testified.

The alleged abuser also told hospital staff not to call Corey's mother, Bre Micciolo, according to Carnevale. She claimed that Gregor had told her Corey's mother, Breanna Micciolo, was a drug addict and didn't want her to be informed.

Micciolo said that, while Grgeor did call her to tell her he was taking Corey to hospital, he did not tell her which hospital he was taking him to - which sent her into a frantic search for her son.

When Corey arrived at the hospital he suffered from multiple seizures. 'His heart stopped, he had stopped breathing. So we initiated CPR. [The doctor] intubated, where he put a tube in his trachea and into his lungs, and ventilation is provided along with CPR,' said Carnevale.

Later in court on Tuesday, Sergeant Raymond Coles with the county prosecutor's office testified that Gregor was seen walking out to his car and driving away by 5:20pm, according to hospital surveillance footage.

Coles said that Breanna Micciolo called Gregor three separate times within minutes of their son being pronounced dead. Gregor never responded.

A sergeant with a local police department then called the father himself twice minutes later. Again, Gregor ignored the calls, according to Coles.

Coles then testified that searches of Gregor's phone revealed that at 6:10 pm, just an hour after his son died, Gregor searched: 'Can your phone be traced in airplane mode?' and 'can my car be tracked?'

The next day, Gregor searched topics such as what would cause a rise in blood sugar in white blood cells and if internal bleeding could raise your blood sugar level, as well as wondering how gastrointestinal bleeding is caused and if such a bleed can be slow.

Further damning searches were found on Gregor's phone on April 4, two days after Corey died.

Coles said that Gregor asked a search engine: 'There was a murder determination from an autopsy - how long to file charges?'

The extraction from Gregor's cellphone also revealed that he deleted approximately 3,466 text messages with Breanna Micciolo.

It also brought up texts Gregor messaged a woman named Marcie he'd met on a dating app on April 1 that Breanna had not returned Corey to him that night as he was supposed to.

Gregor texted Marcie again the day of Corey's death saying he was at the hospital with the boy and would keep her posted.

Richard Cicerone, a state child protective services employee, also testified Tuesday.

He said that Gregor called the state's child abuse hotline at 10:02 am the day Corey died.

Gregor said Corey had come home that morning and said that the boy had been told by his mother to lie to doctors and claim that Gregor hit him.

The father repeated his claim that the boy's mother is a drug addict and that her sister had just been released from jail for drugs. Furthermore, he claimed the boy's maternal grandmother's boyfriend has two felony convictions.

Gregor told Cicerone that the grandmother and her boyfriend had a consistent presence during Corey's visitation with his mother despite having been ordered by a court not to be.

The father remains in Ocean County Jail. He faces 30 years to life if convicted of murder and 10 years if convicted of child endangerment.

In court on Thursday, Gregor's mother, Carol, took the stand to recall the moment she learned of Corey's death from her son.

Carol broke down as she described a phone call she received from Gregor at the hospital where her grandson had died.

'Chris is hysterical,' she said, adding that he was furiously screaming 'what did she do to him' about the little boy's mother, Breanna Micciolo.

Gregor's mother then chokes back tears as she describes the exact moment Gregor told her 'Corey passed'.

'So I call my husband I'm flipping out at the house,' she said, adding that she was hysterically screaming after receiving the devastating news of her grandson's death

As Carol recounts her shock reaction to Corey's death from the stand, Gregor is seen as he breaks down in tears from where he sat in court. He wiped his tears away with a handkerchief as he cried.

'I was so worried,' she said. 'He was so adamant that something happened when he (Corey) was with his mother.'

Carol then revealed how her younger son, Danny, was receiving threatening phone calls on their home phone as she and her husband drove to the hospital following the 'devastating' news.

Later on in the trial, the prosecution fired at Gregor's mother for not recalling the timeline of the day when asked. She hit back 'I wasn't looking at a clock. I was hysterical that my grandson had just passed - I wasn't timing things.'

On the fifth day Christopher Gregor's murder trial, the New Jersey father spent much of testimony glaring at forensic pathologist Dr. Thomas Andrew, appearing emotional at times as he described the fatal injuries inflicted on his son Corey.

Andrew said that Corey, who died in April 2021, lost his life due to blunt force injuries to his chest and abdominals, lacerations and contusions on his liver, and a laceration to his heart.

The pathologist ruled Corey had signs of 'stress cardiomyopathy', a heart condition caused by ongoing stress that he testified 'suggests there was ongoing physiological stress most likely due to mistreatment or abuse.'

Earlier in the trial, the court was shown shocking footage of Gregor forcing his son to run on a treadmill, and picking him up off the floor several times when he falls off the machine.

The footage was taken in a New Jersey gym less than two weeks before Corey died, where he was rushed to hospital dazed and unconscious hours after he was dropped at his father's home by his mother.

Corey's mother Breanna Micciolo - who also testified against Gregor last week - alleged that he had never even met his son until a year before his death, and Corey would routinely return home from his father's home with fresh cuts and bruises.

Prosecutors alleged that Gregor showed a pattern of abuse for months before Corey was killed, with the forensic pathologist ruling that his cause of death was blunt force injuries that were administered 'by another person.'
