Boston's most expensive single family home has gone on the market for $29.9 million along with some bold design choices.

The 19th century mansion built in 1882 is situated in the city's Back Bay area along Commonwealth Avenue.

It's full of audacious design decisions, from a cobalt colored living room, a chess board flavored hallway, and plenty of skeletons, not in the closet, but in the shower.

The price tag is the most expensive single family home for sale in Boston with more than 10,000 sq ft of space complete with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, set over five floors. William Montero of Sotheby's International Realty is serving as the listing agent.

The current owner, venture-capital investor Kevin Starr, is now selling the home after his family moved out to the Boston suburbs.

Aside from the cool blue living room, the kitchen area is furnished with a shiny black wooden floor, while the home's staircase is a mix of bold choices with different colored stairs leading up to the second floor.

Red, orange, cobalt, blue and indigo steps lead the way.

Many of the home's floors, if not carpeted, or painted in a shiny black paint, making four some stark reflections.

Skeletons are not only in the shower but also run along one of the homes corridors and can be seen in artwork on the walls, including the wallpaper, which also showcases the owner's fascination with skulls.

Starr worked with designer Eric Roseff who likes to uses bold colors in his work.

Starr spent a year on a multimillion-dollar renovation that led to the addition of plenty of skulls.

'A lot of people think skulls are creepy, but he sees it as a joyous sign of life,' Roseff said. 'When a fetus is forming, the skull is the first thing formed. At the end of life…the skull is what remains.'

Roseff said the home is a reflection on Starr's personality.

'His vibe from the beginning was the feel of a boutique hotel,' Roseff said to WSJ. 'He likes a little bit of Miami thrown in, a little bit of Vegas thrown in.

'We wanted it to have a real lounge-y vibe—like a 1970s coke-den vibe,' said Roseff.

'It's intoxicating, it's inviting, it's sexy.'

The lighting in the home is equally original with black chandeliers dangling from high ceilings in the kitchen and hallway.

'The interior design skillfully merges classic architectural details such as ornate moldings, intricate woodwork, cathedral ceilings, five fireplaces with bold modern touches.

'A limestone façade invites you into a lavish parlor level, complete with a grand reception hall, a library adorned with black oak paneling and a temperature-controlled wine room,' the listing continues.
