Honda recalling lawn mowers, pressure washer equipment due to injury risk when starting

Honda has expanded a recall of its lawn mowers and pressure washer equipment amidst nearly 5,000 reports of failures and 38 minor injuries.

The latest recall affects 200 lawn mower replacement engines installed to repair faulty machines after a recall last September.

The same fault in the replacement engines is behind the fresh recall.

Improperly manufactured camshafts cause the starter rope to suddenly retract when pulling to start - posing an injury hazard.

In September, Honda recalled 391,000 lawn mowers and pressure washer engines.  But repaired machines - in some cases - have the same problem.

And many of the originally recalled garden machines have yet to be repaired.

The latest recall comes ahead of the summer months when millions of Americans will be out in their yards mowing lawns and cleaning driveways and patios.

The latest notice applies to Honda HRN216 and HRX217K6 lawnmowers, and GCV170/200 G5B general-purpose engines used in power washers and lawnmower replacement engines.

Owners are being urged to immediately stop using the recalled products and instead contact an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer to schedule an appointment for a free inspection and repair.

The products cost between $550 and $1,100 and were sold at Coo, Home Depot, Lowe's, Northern Tool and various other stores nationwide.

Honda has received 2,966 reports since the September recall when it had already received a further 2,197 reports of incidents.

You can contact Hona toll-free at 888-888-3139 from 9am to 7:30pm ET Monday-Friday.

Earlier this month, Ford was forced to recall nearly 243,000 Maverick small pickup trucks in the US because the tail lights may not illuminate.

A faulty computer module can cause the tail lights to stay dark when they are being driven.

This makes it harder for other motorists following behind to see the trucks - and that increases the risk of a crash.

The recall covers certain pickups from the 2022 through 2024 model years.

Ford said it has no reports of any crashes or injuries due to the problem.

Headlights, turn signals and brake lights will still work.
