Kelly Clarkson showcased her slimmer than ever figure after finally admitting that she had usedweight loss drug to slim down after previously insisting her dramatic transformation was the result of 'walking' more and cutting back on carbs

The 42-year-old media personality's extreme transformation was in full display in newly released promotional images for her The Kelly Clarkson Show program.

The photos come shortly after her admission that she is using a weight loss drug but insisted that it was not the celeb-favorite weight loss drug Ozempic.

So what weight loss drug did Kelly use? Dailymail.com dives into the possible options.

It is important to note that Ozempic is considered the brand name most associated with this particular group of weight loss medications in the way that Vaseline is the go to name for petroleum jelly.

It essentially is the umbrella name used for injectable weight loss drugs used to treat things like diabetes, obesity, and some individuals who are living with overweight.

The big five weight loss drug brand names are Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound, and Saxenda.

Ozempic and Wegovy are Semaglutide while Mounjaro and Zepbound are Tirzepatide and lastly Saxenda is a liraglutide.

Here is some information about the three types of drugs as Clarkson is likely to be using one of them:

Semaglutide:  Ozempic and Wegovy

Ozempic and Wegovy are the brand names of the Semaglutide medication which are used as an antidiabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and an anti-obesity medication used for long-term weight management.

Ozempic was approved for type 2 diabetes while Wegovy's function is aimed more toward weight loss and both fall under the Novo Nordisk umbrella.

Dr. Mir Ali, a bariatric surgeon and medical director of MemorialCare Surgical Weight Loss Center at Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California told Healthline: 'The medications work by stimulating the GLP-1 receptor, which makes the patient feel less hungry and also slows the emptying of the stomach.'

The brain is also affected by use of Semaglutide.

Katherine H. Saunders, DABOM, an obesity expert, co-founder of Intellihealth, and a clinical assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine explained: 'In addition, semaglutide targets areas of the brain, such as the hypothalamus, that control appetite and influence eating decisions, which may further assist with weight loss.'

Though Ozempic and Wegovy are brand names of the same drug, they aren't actually the same with the biggest difference being in the administration tools.

Dr. Christopher McGowan, a gastroenterologist, obesity medicine specialist, and the founder of True You Weight Loss said: 'Wegovy’s injection is delivered via a single-use, disposable pen, in contrast to the multi-use pens for Ozempic.'

The most notable thing is that Wegovy is delivered at a higher dose than it's counterpart.

Tirzepatide: Mounjaro and Zepbound

Brand names Mounjaro and Zepbound are considered as Tirzepatide.

Much like Ozempic and Wegovy, Mounjaro was approved for Type 2 Diabetes while Zepbound is approved for weight loss. Both drugs are manufactured by Eli Lily.

One key difference between Mounjaro and Zepbound is that there is essentially no difference between the two other than the name.

Dr. Mitch Roslin, the director of bariatric medicine at Northern Westchester Hospital in Westchester County, New York explained: 'It’s like being called Susie at home and Susan at work.'

Tirzepatide does differ from semaglutide however.

Saunders said: 'Mounjaro is a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor and GLP-1 receptor agonist. GIP and GLP-1 are satiety hormones that are naturally produced by the intestine.

'Mounjaro mimics these hormones, which leads to feeling full sooner after eating and remaining full longer. Mounjaro also slows down digestion, which can help with portion control and hunger.'

The use of dual-hormones make tirzepatide distinct from semaglutide.

McGowan said: 'Due to its dual-hormone mechanism, Mounjaro appears to provide a greater improvement in glucose control than Ozempic, though this has not been studied in head-to-head trials.'

According to Healthline: 'Research conducted by Eli Lily from a pair of trials, SURMOUNT-3Trusted Source and SURMOUNT-4, indicated that individuals taking tirzepatide lost 26.6% of their body weight over an 84-week period, which is more than the 15% people lost using Wegovy in a shorter 68-week span.'

Tirzepatide could also be taken at a higher weekly dose.

Liraglutide: Saxenda

Saxenda is the brand name of the drug  Liraglutide which is used to help with weight loss and is part of the group of drugs called GLP-1 agonists.

Like the four aforementioned drugs, it is an injectable and is part of a weight management plan.

It is also in line with the other GLP-1s in that it is a hormone that helps manage blood sugar levels and regulates appeteite.

Saxeneda causes the stomach to empty out more slowly which helps the patient feel fuller after eating as well as suppresses appetite much like its counterparts.

This all comes after Clarkson made the confession that she used a weight loss drug while interviewing Whoopi Goldberg, 68, on her show on Monday.

The Fort Worth, Texas-born star - who's been at the center of speculation about her rapid weight loss for months - said that doctors prescribed her with a weight loss medication after a blood test.

She insisted she didn't use Ozempic, but did not reveal which drug she used instead.

'Mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to do that too,' the A Moment Like This songstress told the EGOT winner. 'Everybody thinks it's Ozempic, it's not - it's something else.'

She reportedly lost 60 pounds, according to Extra TV, although Kelly has not revealed the exact amount herself.

The popstar, who shares daughter River Rose, nine, and son Remington Alexander, seven, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, 47, said on Monday that her physician insisted she take the medication after repeated efforts to get her on it.

'My doctor chased me for like two years,' she said. 'And I was like, "No, I'm afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems, I was afraid."'

Kelly said the medication she takes is 'something that aids in helping break down the sugar,' as her 'body doesn't do it right.'

The hitmaker, presumably speaking about how she didn't notice that she had progressively gained weight, said that she was taken aback when watching herself on camera at one point and seeing her drastic transformation.

She added: 'Seeing yourself, I didn't see it... all of a sudden, I was like "Who the f*** is that?"'

Meanwhile Whoopi said her own weight loss journey was triggered when a woman who saw her in the 2022 film Till told her she thought she was wearing a 'fat suit,' which she was 'indignant' about.

Kelly reiterated that she had not been paying attention to her weight for some time.

'It's a weird thing ... I never saw that, I was never insecure about it - I just did not see that,' Kelly said, adding that at her heaviest, she weighed 203 pounds standing at 5-foot-3.

Kelly said she was not miserable or depressed at the time, even though in hindsight, she felt she looked like she was 'about to die of a heart attack.'

Whoopi led off the appearance acknowledging she has shed pounds, and had noticed Clarkson had as well.

Whoopi, who revealed she reached 300 pounds at her heaviest, said she had lost as much as 'two people' and said she had been taking a 'wonderful shot that works for folks who need some help.'

Kelly told Whoopi: 'You look wonderful, and I hope you feel wonderful.'

Fans went wild after hearing Kelly finally came clean on her weight loss, adding they are 'disappointed but not surprised'.

Many of her fans branded her a 'liar,' because she had previously credited her transformation to a healthy diet and 'walking' more when fans speculated she was using Ozempic.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, fans wrote: 'So she's a liar...'

'Disappointed, but not surprised.'

In response to a TMZ article, one social media user praised Clarkson's curvy body prior to her dramatic weight loss and also added that they too were 'not surprised' she turned to a weight loss medication to slim down.

Other fans pointed out that throughout her career, Clarkson had never been at such a low weight and tweeted: 'She wasn't this thin on American Idol.'

Another X user joked about keto gummies, a fake endorsement and scam advertisement which caused drama in Clarkson's comments section earlier this year.

'So, she's a liar about the Keto gummies?!'

The admission from Kelly comes less than five months after she told People in January that her weight loss was partially a result of an enhanced focused on simple exercise and a healthy diet.

'Walking in the city is quite the workout,' the entertainer, who relocated her show from Los Angeles to New York City last year, told the magazine.

She told the magazine that she had been eating 'a healthy mix' of food while occasionally splurging.

'The other night I had a frozen yogurt with my daughter, and it was magical,' she said.

Clarkson told the publication: 'I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor - a couple [of] years I didn’t.

'And 90 percent of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat - sorry, vegetarians in the world!'

In 2017, Kelly admitted to People magazine that she 'never felt the need to be a certain weight.

Kelly also admitted in 2007 that she had been bulimic through part of high school as she thought it would help her lose weight and in turn allow her to get choice parts in school musicals.

But she told Attitude Magazine that when she was 'really skinny' during her post-American Idol rise to fame she 'wanted to kill' herself.

'I was miserable, like, inside and out, for four years of my life. But no one cared, because aesthetically you make sense,' she said, though she clarified that the feeling was partly due to not yet having much control over her career.

'People are always pushing us, but we’re also pushing ourselves and you don’t really know your limits until it’s too late sometimes,' she admitted.
