The Westminster Dog Show was this past weekend, featuring only the most pampered of pooches.
The dog show is the second-longest continuously held sporting event in the United States besides the Kentucky Derby. More than 3,000 dogs from around the world came to New York City for the Westminster Kennel Club's 148th Show, which was held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, Queens.
The 'Best in Show,' the most coveted title in the show, will be announced on Tuesday, May 14 at 11 p.m.
While the winners receive ribbons and a spot in the history books, they do not receive a cash prize.
Dog owners are shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars to make sure their dogs are camera ready. Between hiring a handler, grooming, medical care, and travel, those bragging rights are worth a pretty penny.
Take a look at these behind-the-scenes photos from the first day of the dog show on Monday.
