Aaron Rodgers admitted that he was surprised when Robert F. Kennedy Jr. presented the idea of having the New York Jets quarterback as his running mate in the upcoming elections.
In March, the 40-year-old was on a shortlist of potential candidates to run alongside Kennedy on his independent presidential bid.
In a recent interview with Tucker Carlson, the four-time NFL MVP shared his reaction when Kennedy made the pitch.
'My thing is [Donald Trump] had four years to do it and didn't drain the swamp,' Rodgers said (starting at the 29:45 mark). 'And whether he just got scared because of what he learned when he was in there — I think it's very plausible.'
'But that's why I was interested when Bobby came to me and said: 'Would you think about being my running mate?' And I said, 'Are you serious? I'm a f***ing football player,'' he continued. 'But I love this country, and I'd love to be a part of bringing it back to what she used to be.'

Rodgers joined the New York Jets in 2023 but suffered a season-ending injury in his first game
Rodgers had been vocal about his support for Kennedy. His backing went as far as using his platform on ESPN's Pat McAfee Show to express his interest in joining Kennedy for a live debate about the COVID-19 vaccine.
While Kennedy ultimately chose Nicole Shanahan as his running mate, Rodgers continued to show his support.
Although he was initially shocked about being offered the opportunity, Rodgers admitted considering the position.
'Oh yeah, I thought about it,' Rodgers said. 'I definitely thought about it because I love Bobby, and I just wanted to hear what he had to say about it.'
The Super Bowl XLV MVP joined the Jets in 2023 after 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately, his season ended within his first quarter in Jets uniform as he suffered an Achilles tear against the Buffalo Bills.
Despite his attempt to make a monumental return before the New Year, Rodgers' comeback hopes faded along with New York's playoff chances. The Jets ended their season with a 7-10 record, sitting third in the AFC East.
