Queen Mary of Denmark looked stunningly regal as she attended a gala dinner with fellow royals in Norway on the day of her 20th wedding anniversary to King Frederik.

The 52-year-old dazzled in a jaw-dropping periwinkle blue gown on Wednesday evening at a dinner hosted by King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway to honour the Danish monarch's state visit in Oslo.

The Danish King and Queen smiled and chatted as they sat side-by-side at dinner, appearing unperturbed by the affair rumours that rocked the palace in November.

The pair seem determined to carry-on as a united front, with body language experts saying this shared goal will allow them to overcome any relationship tension behind closed doors

As a nod to Mary and Frederik's wedding anniversary, the queen opted for a gown by Birgit Hallstein, the same Danish designer behind her iconic 2004 wedding gown.

The Australian-born royal is no stranger to outfit-repeating and has worn the tailored dress with chiffon sleeves and neckline once before, back in 2015.

She paired the fairytale-like gown with a pair of satin blue pumps and pieces from one of the Danish royal family's most valuable jewellery sets.

Mary wore her brunette tresses in a sophisticated updo to showcase the priceless Pearl Poiré Tiara which dates back 200 years and is only ever worn by the queen.

Mary's mother-in-law Queen Margarethe often donned the tiara during the course of her 50-year reign, with the last time as recently as New Year's Day, just after she announced her abdication from the throne.

The Pearl Poiré Tiara is usually worn with the Khedive of Egypt Parure, which consists of a necklace, a pair of earrings and a small round brooch.

Mary only opted to wear the stunning earrings and brooch for the event as the high neckline on her dress would have hidden the necklace.

Below her left clavicle she wore a traditional pin with a portrait of Frederik made especially for her.

The miniature portrait of her husband is set in a bow of Order of Dannebrog ribbon created by British artist Tom Mulliner just for her.

Traditionally, women in the Danish royal family wear the portrait of the sovereign. Queen Mary used to display a similar portrait of Queen Margrethe before she ascended in January.

The portrait is set inside a family heirloom, a gold frame with diamonds, which Margarethe wore with a picture of her father Frederik IX, from 1972 until her succession.

On her waist, she had two brooches, one of which symbolised The Order of the Elephant, the Danish Royal family's most distinguished order.

The Order of the Elephant has a complex and varied history dating back to the 1400s during the reign of King Christian I.

Between 1580 and now, 890 royals have been awarded the honour with Margrethe giving 68 people the order during her 52-year reign.
