Three of the young men accused of beating 16-year-old Preston Lord to death will not face the death penalty if convicted of his murder, officials said.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office has decided to not seek the death penalty against the three adult suspects in the case - Treston Billey, 18, Dominic Turner, 20, and Taylor Sherman, 19.
While all seven suspects are charged in the murder as adults, only Billey, Turner and Sherman are eligible for capital punishment, as reported by ABC15.
Lord was assaulted at a Halloween party last October and found on a nearby sidewalk in Queen Creek, a suburb of Phoenix.
Turner allegedly snatched a $10 gold chain from one of Lord's friends, beginning a fatal sequence of events.

The Goons then began playing hot potato with the gold chain as they mocked Lord and his friends, inciting them to 'do something' about the stolen chain, according to police.
Lord and his friends began running away but the Goons gave chase, pushing a 14-year-old to the ground before allegedly punching him in the head and leaving him with a broken wrist.
High school jock Talan Renner, 17, is accused of being the bully who delivered the devastating 'hammer punches' that ended the Lord's life.

He reportedly said: 'Slumped the f*** out. Haha.'
Lord died from his brain injuries at the hospital two days later, but police did not make any arrests for months, until March, sparking frustration in a community that has been rocked by teen violence over the last years.
Court documents say none of the suspects knew Preston before they attacked him over a gold chain.
The suspects appeared in court last week, and a target trial date was set for July, 21, 2025.
The Goons, officially designated a street gang by the Gilbert police department last week, have terrorized Phoenix suburbs since as far back as 2022.

Police were investigating Lord's murder for months before they finally made arrests in March.
One Gilbert father, Rick Kuehner, claims he had been trying to get Gilbert police and school officials to protect his son from the Goons since last summer, when his child was first threatened and then brutally beaten up at an In-N-Out parking lot which was a go-to spot for the teen delinquents.
After Lord's brutal beating and subsequent alleged attempted cover ups were detailed by The Arizona Republic, authorities reopened multiple cases believed to have been conducted by a larger group of assailants.

Renner allegedly couldn't help but brag after Lord was killed, texting fellow suspect Sherman to say: 'I might have hospitalized that kid. I hit him pretty hard.'
He is also said to have shown a video of the fatal beating he'd recorded on his phone to friends while declaring: 'Oh, I put this kid on life support.'
His father, millionaire business owner Travis Renner, has been accused of trying to cover up his son's involvement in the killing by taking him out of town while his hands healed from the beating he allegedly handed out.
