iOS 17.5 was released on Monday, and introduced more word games to Apple News+, as well as robust security improvements to Apple's Maps, Notes and Find My apps.
Following its release, many iPhone users rushed to download it.
However, several appear to be regretting their decision, having noticed a bizarre glitch linked to the update.
By default, Apple's Photos app has a 'Recently Deleted' folder, which keeps your deleted images and videos for 30 days.
However, that doesn't appear to be what's going on here, with reports of images and videos deleted months or even years ago reappearing.
Taking to Reddit, one user wrote: 'I have four pics from 2010 that keep reappearing as the latest pics uploaded to iCloud. I have deleted them repeatedly'
Several users have voiced their concerns about the privacy of their content on their iPhone
Taking to Reddit, one user wrote: 'I have four pics from 2010 that keep reappearing as the latest pics uploaded to iCloud. I have deleted them repeatedly.'
Another added: 'One pic from June 2023 reappeared on my iPhone photo library. I'm sure, because in April 2024 I've transferred all my photos/videos to a computer and afterwards cleaned all photos/videos from the iPhone (including trash bin). I don't use iCloud Photos.'
And one vented: 'Some pictures from a few years ago has come back for me. It's really is shocking. They are in the recent images actually that's what is worrying me.'
Several users have voiced their concerns about the privacy of the content on their iPhone.
'Isn't it a really big thing? I mean, Apple is a privacy advocate, but if deleted files are not really deleted after so many years. How can we trust it?' one user questioned.
Meanwhile, another added: 'This looks really bad on Apple. They'll absolutely need to explain themselves and why they're keeping deleted photos for years.'
On X, formerly Twitter, a number of Apple users shared their experience of the glitch. One commenter wrote that pictures taken in 2020 had reappeared
Another commenter claims that the glitch had led to him getting 'my ear chewed by my girlfriend' after pictures of an ex-partner returned to their phone
Meanwhile on X, formerly Twitter, other Apple users shared their own experiences of the glitch.
One commenter wrote: 'I was like no way is this real, and went to m gallery, the first thing I see is a pic from 20220'.
While another Apple user complained that he had just had his 'ear chewed by my girlfriend' after the glitch brought back old pictures of an ex-partner.
The commenter wrote: 'She was looking for a photo that we took this past weekend on my phone, and a photo of my ex pops up on her. No matter what I said, she didn't believe me.'
Other X users also reported a strange glitch which appeared to fill their camera roll with unexplained blank images
One commenter even said that a series of black photos had appeared on their phone and were apparently taken during a time when the phone was powered off
Other users have also reported that the update led to another strange bug which caused a number of unexplained blank photos to appear in the camera roll.
One commenter on X shared a screenshot of several plain black, saying: 'These just came out of nowhere'.
While another added: 'I do have one weird issue that suddenly appeared, a series of black "Live Photos" all taken at the same time on a phone that's sitting in a drawer powered off!'
Apple has been contacted for comment.
