David Copperfield's representatives have slammed a slew of new sexual misconduct allegations that have been leveled at the illusionist in a new report.

In total, 16 women have accused Copperfield, 67, of varying degrees of misconduct in interviews with The Guardian. More than half of those accusers say that the abuse occurred before they were 18 years of age.

Three of the accusers say that Copperfield drugged them before having sex with them. The allegations go back as far as the 1980s with the most recent allegedly occurring in 2014.

In response, Copperfield's legal team said that he 'never acted inappropriately with anyone, let alone with anyone underage.' His lawyers added that 'truthful' descriptions would mention his 'kindness' and 'respect' for both men and women.

The women who spoke to The Guardian all met him through his world famous live performances. It's previously been reported that the magician performs worldwide over 500 times a year.

His lawyers told The Guardian that it isn't the first time similar allegations have been made against Copperfield. In 2018, one of the women counted in the new report, Brittney Lewis, went public with her claims in an interview with The Wrap.

Lewis said at the time that she was an aspiring 17-year-old model when she encountered Copperfield.

At the time, his reps also denied those allegations while Copperfield said on Twitter that he would 'weather another storm' and reiterated his support for the MeToo movement.

Statement from David Copperfield's representatives

'Everyone that knows David Copperfield will tell you that these recent allegations from one newspaper are the exact opposite of who David is.

In fact, David has a record of risking his career to help protect women from powerful predators.

Most of these historic accusations have been made before, and all of them are as false now as they were then.

David requested the 'evidence' upon which these false allegations claim to rely and this has not been provided.

By contrast, whenever US law enforcement has looked into such matters, they have been investigated thoroughly and it has been found that there is simply no case to answer.

The Guardian’s characterization is not who David is, and he continues to support anyone who has experienced any form of abuse or discrimination.

The movement must succeed, but false accusations must stop for it to flourish.

David will be considering the position with his legal team and will take such steps as may be appropriate over these false and scurrilous allegations.'

Lewis' claims do not appear to have been resuscitated until the The Guardian's recent report.

In 2018, Lewis told The Wrap that she reported her allegations to the FBI but there is no evidence to suggest any charges were filed.

Another woman, named by The Guardian under the pseudonym Gillian, told the outlet said that she 'honest to God' believes she was drugged by Copperfield prior to him having sex with her.

In response to this, a Copperfield lawyer said drugs are 'not a part of his world.'

Other claims in The Guardian article center around assertions that Copperfield groped young girls who were called on stage to participate in his act.

The family members of a 15-year-old allege that they witnessed Copperfield performing such an act. His lawyers say that such an allegation is not only wrong but 'implausible.'

Another woman who claims a similar thing happened to her, Fallon Thornton, 38, says that after the same thing happened to her in January 2014, she went to the Las Vegas police.

Authorities said that the case was closed due to a lack of evidence.

Copperfield's team says that police reviewed video of that show and were satisfied that nothing inappropriate occurred. The Guardian points out that their reporters have not seen the video.

Copperfield is also accused of promising young women help in getting careers in entertainment.

One woman, named as Carla, said that she met Copperfield when she was 15 in 1991 and that after they met, he kept in contact with her through late night phone calls. When she was 18, they had consensual sex.

Carla told The Guardian she believes she was groomed. His lawyers admit the pair had a relationship but deny any grooming took place.

Earlier this year in a separate instance, Copperfield was found to have visited pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein's private island.

In her May 2016 deposition, Epstein accuser Johanna Sjoberg described going to a dinner at one of Epstein's homes also attended by magician David Copperfield.

She said Copperfield did magic tricks before asking if she was aware 'that girls were getting paid to find other girls.'

One of the key allegations against Epstein and Maxwell was that some of the girls he paid for sex acts then acted as recruiters to find him other victims. Sjoberg said Copperfield didn't get more specific about what he meant.

In response, Copperfield's representatives told The Guardian earlier this year that he heard 'a rumor' about Epstein's acts but 'had no knowledge or belief that anything improper was going on.'

'Our client did not know about Epstein’s horrific crimes. Like the rest of the world, he learned about it from the press,' his lawyers added.

In the wake of that revelation, Copperfield was dropped from a major NBC TV event in which he would 'make the moon' disappear.

Neither NBC or Copperfield commented further on that but the magician said in February that he would be going through his planned show eventually.
