Nikki Glaser has claimed it's 'impossible' that Tom Brady didn't 'consider' how his explosive Netflix roast special would affect his family and suggested that the former NFL player simply didn't know what she and the other comedians were capable of.
During an appearance on Today With Hoda & Jenna, the 39-year-old comedian defended her brutal jokes about Tom's divorce from Gisele Bundchen - which apparently left the supermodel 'deeply disappointed' - and said maybe the live event was 'a little more than he had planned for.'
When Hoda, 59, mentioned the athlete's recent comments about regretting taking part in Netflix's Greatest Roast Of All Time, Nikki replied: 'Yeah, I think he probably does. I feel like maybe he didn't consider the backlash from his family and how it would affect them and I do understand that.'
The blonde star continued: 'But I also think Tom Brady does not do anything without doing his research and knowing exactly what he's getting into. So, I think it's kind of a thing you say after the fact, but it's impossible to me he didn't consider what could have happened.
Nikki Glaser has claimed it's 'impossible' that Tom Brady didn't 'consider' how his explosive Netflix roast special would affect his family
'Because there is roast footage out there that you can watch and go, "They're gonna go this hard."
'But there's a part of me that thinks Tom Brady - especially given his career and how much people love him - no one's ever said a bad thing to him in the past 30 years, so he didn't know what anyone's capable of... of going there. I don't even know what he thought.'
When Jenna, 42, asked: 'Could you tell while it was happening that he was kind of regretting or not really?'
Nikki quickly replied: 'I got a sense that maybe it was a little more than he had planned for.'
She then claimed: 'He hadn't planned how to react, because you've kind of got to practice like, "What am I gonna do?" and I think by midway through he had decided on the laughter he was gonna do.
'But I think at first it kind of jarred him because I really don't think he thought they were gonna go there.'
'The thing is, when they are producing these, they can't take Tom in and go, "Hey, can we do jokes about this?" because it would be too awkward to ask someone.
'So it's kind of all just like, "We think we can go there, we think maybe don't go here," so we all agreed not to talk about the kids but there wasn't any specific guidelines of what to say and not to say,' Nikki confirmed.
Nikki, 39, did not hold back at the live event and poked fun at Tom's divorce from supermodel Gisele Bundchen
Nikki told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager that she thinks Tom knew 'exactly what he was getting into'
Hoda then asked: 'So were you surprised when Tom Brady got up and he was upset because there was a joke about Bob Kraft?' referring to the CEO of the New England Patriots.
Nikki responded: 'I thought it was like maybe a joke or they had choreographed it beforehand, but it certainly wasn't. I definitely heard later on like, "Was that okay?" We were questioning like, "If that wasn't okay, can we do all these other jokes?"
'That was kind of the fun part of it being a live event is that things like that happen and people look at it and go, "What was that?"'
The Netflix roast, which took place in Inglewood, California, on May 5, featured plenty of ruthless material including jokes about Tom's divorce from Gisele, whom he was married to for 13 years, and he has now admitted the quips didn't go down too well back at home.
Tom shares son Benjamin, 14, and daughter Vivian, 11, with Gisele, and also has a 16-year-old son named John with his ex, Bridget Moynahan
The seven-time Super Bowl winner, who shares Benjamin and Vivian with the Brazilian supermodel, revealed that some of the jokes 'affected' his kids during an episode of 'The Pivot' with Fred Taylor, Ryan Clark and Channing Crowder.
'I loved when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun,' he said. 'I didn't like the way they affected my kids.
'It was the bittersweet aspect of when you're doing something you think is one way and then you realize I wouldn't do that again because of the way it affected the people I care about the most in the world.
'It makes you in some ways a better parent going through it because sometimes you're naïve,' Tom added.
