Fortunately, the wet look is an easy and of-the-moment style that can be achieved a number of ways and with a variety of products, including mousse, gel, pomade, and wax.
'The wet look is always a confident show-stopper, especially suited for hair that is short to chin length,' says Ryan Trygstad, co-founder of the Mark Ryan Salon.
According to the stylist whose client's include Kelly Rippa, Naomi Watts, and Kim Cattrall, you unfortunately can't just step out of the shower and call it a day, there is some preparation.
'To achieve a look that's sleek and not crunchy, you need the right products.' Ryan favors R&CO motorcycle gel.
'Simply apply the gel to your freshly damp hair and shake or scrunch to create this textured appearance.
'Alternatively, you can use a comb to achieve a sleek wet look for even more added drama.'

Stars at this year's Met Gala interpreted the theme Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion in a number of ways.
For some "The Garden of Time" dress code was an invitation to embrace avant-garde takes on florals - everything from 3D blooms to textured prints.
For others, it meant digging into the vaults of luxury designers for something that deserved to be resurrected.
Hairstyles varied from bohemian to futuristic, but the wet look was a popular trend of the night with mega-watt stars like Kerry Washington diving in!
The 'Scandal' actress brought out one of her shortest hairstyles ever to this year's gala.
'I love a pixie cut on Kerry and decided this was the perfect moment for an elevated pixie cut to bring the whole look together,' said celebrity hairstylist, Takisha Sturdivant-Drew.
'Kerry’s gorgeous dark violet Oscar De La Renta dress is the perfect representation of the theme Garden of Time, and I knew I had to match that chic, bold, and fairy-like energy with her hair. '
'I love a pixie cut on Kerry and decided this was the perfect moment for an elevated pixie cut to bring the whole look together,' said celebrity hairstylist, Takisha Sturdivant-Drew
To do so, Takisha created a polished look that looked of-the-moment and gave trendy wet vibes.
'I prepped Kerry by evenly applying the OSiS+ Volume and Body Grip Extra Strong Mousse to her damp clean hair and thoroughly distributing throughout. This made it so we could create some volume and protect her hair from heat styling all at once,' shared the stylist.
'I continued by blow drying her hair with a round brush to prepare for other hot tools.
'I took a flat iron and went through straightening and smoothing all of the hair.
'Although the mousse did add a lot of volume and shine I wanted to incorporate even more bounce, so I went in with some OSiS+ Texture Craft Dry Texture Spray and focused on the root area to give it more lift.'
Takisha also applied some OSiS+ Glow Anti-Frizz Shine Serum to add some more shine as well as help smooth down frizz.
'Water, wet, beauty; These words inspired me to approach her hair in a completely different, abstract and artisanal way,' shared hairstylist Brent Lawler
Rita Ora's look was a standout at the gala thanks to hairstylist Brent Lawler, who is known for his spectacular runway creations for fashion house, World.
'Water, wet, beauty; These words inspired me to approach her hair in a completely different, abstract and artisanal way,' shared Brent.
'I wanted the hair to be wet and very close to the head to showcase the extraordinary beauty of the dress itself.
'The hair is very textured and frames the face softly like she had almost come straight out of a beautiful stream. This is not really your conventional red-carpet look, but instead something that feels more emotional and couture.'
After trialing the style, Brent reveals Rita said, “this is perfection!'
To achieve the post-shower wet hair look, months of prep were required including daily application of an overnight scalp serum, promoting, strong, healthier hair growth.
To attend fashion's biggest night, Rita embraced her natural hair by removing extensions and opting for a shorter style.
'Using a wet look mousse, I sectioned the hair and placed product directly at the root. With a wide tooth comb I gently let the natural texture move forward all around her face and down to the nape of her head,' said Brent
'On the morning of the Met, Rita followed her hair prep routine. She started by cleansing her hair with the G2 Strength + Length Shampoo, followed by the G3 Strength + Length Conditioner which works to plump strands and give the appearance of thicker hair.
'Then the G4 Hydra-Gloss Treatment Mask was applied for hydration and red carpet-ready shine, leaving it on for three minutes before rinsing.
'Rita applied the the brand's scalp serum along her hairline and middle parting, ensuring her strands and scalp were strengthened ahead of styling.'
Following wash and prep, 'I towel dried Rita’s hair to remove excess moisture, then loosely finger dried Rita’s hair with hair dryer on medium heat,' said Brent.

'With very fine hair pins we secured the hair in areas all around her face so it wouldn't move while we dried it. Using soft tulle mesh as head scarf we then with a diffuser and blow dryer on very low heat, we defused the hair from a distance.
'Once the hair is fully dry we remove tulle net and using a fine hair oiled mist spray and paint brush we then go in with an oiled brush and swipe the areas of hair where the light will hit on red carpet.'
