This is the shocking moment a would-be attacker in New York City was stabbed seven times by an intended victim after his plan to ambush a couple spectacularly backfired.

Surveillance footage shows how the 37-year-old attacker appeared to ambush two people walking with their dog near 49th and Broadway in Woodside on Wednesday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

The assailant, seen in video wearing a blue sweatshirt, throws a garment onto the floor before lunging at his victim from behind.

The victim ducks and turns, grabbing his attacker near the neck and pulling him to the floor before unleashing a flurry of attacks with a knife as his companion joins the assault.

Held to the floor, the original attacker is helpless to react as the couple beat him in broad daylight, with bystanders only looking on as the commotion unfolds.

The assailant eventually gets to his feet but is restrained by his intended victim, seen wearing a medical boot on his right foot, and held back from escaping.

After the devastating assault, the attacker-turned-victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with multiple stab wounds to his body, NYPD said.

He is currently in a stable condition, the New York Post reported.

The NYPD is currently investigating after officers found the 37-year-old while responding to the scene.

They say the attack happened at around 2:46pm on Wednesday, and that they have not yet made any arrests.

They say they are searching for two suspects, according to Fox 5.

From another angle, the man initially attacked is seen riding on a scooter at 2:40pm with a woman and a Husky.

The attacker is seen approaching from behind, carrying a black garment under his left arm.

He throws the jacket in his left hand to the ground before jumping his victim with a  punch.

The man appears to dodge the attack and turns round to look at his assailant as his companion steps in.

The attacker is dragged to the ground, helpless to defend himself as his feet writhe and struggle to find stable footing.

His would-be victim is able to get onto his knees and hold the man in a lock as he lays into him.

The companion appears to punch and kick the man in the back as the dog looks on, dragged around on its leash by the responding couple.

The horrific attack comes just days after shocking footage captured the moment a serial offender stabbed a random tourist near Times Square in a seemingly unprovoked attack.

A man using a walker was seen in video brandishing a weapon at West 43rd and Eighth Avenue, perched near the storefront of Port Gourmet Deli before lashing out at an unsuspecting woman.

It was another two minutes before police officers approached the attack, getting him to drop the knife and arresting him.

Cyril Destin, 62, was charged earlier this week in connection with the shocking attack on a 36-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, who was reportedly walking with her daughter at the time.

Sources told the New York Post the attacker had a history of mental health issues and prior arrests, and lived on the streets.

Dustin has been arrested 14 times over the past 20 years, most recently for criminal mischief in 2022, law enforcement sources told the outlet.

After the attack last week, Destin was taking to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

His victim was also taken to Bellevue, where she was treated for a stab wound to the chest.
