A veteran Walmart employee has revealed secret shopping tricks to help save money while shopping at the stores.
The anonymous employee, who has worked for the retail giant for almost a decade, told Go Banking Rates their savings and shopping efficiency hacks.
It comes as Walmart's earnings have helped ease fears of a recession - as the retail bellwether saw its like-for-like sales jump almost 4 per cent for the first three months of the year.
The strong performance by the nation's largest retailer could assuage some investors' fears about ebbing US consumer spending.
An anonymous employee has revealed their secrets for cheaper shopping
The clearance aisle in Walmart stores has a secret weekly sale, according to the employee.
'Serious deals emerge every Tuesday when those aisles transform into hidden bargain goldmines,' they told Go Banking Rates.
'Keep an eye out for yellow stickers ending in '5' or '0' marking deepest discounts. It's like a special savings event happens weekly if you just know when and where to look.'
Using Walmart's mobile app can unlock secret savings not found in store, the employee explained.
'The Walmart app is a goldmine for savvy shoppers,' they said.
'Activate push notifications there for clearance events, flash sales and exclusive mobile coupons.
'It's your ticket to deals and discounts right in your pocket' they added.
Coupon savings can add up - with reductions of $1 to $5 common. Recently, there was $5 off Kraft cafe barista roast coffee.
Walmart has a little-known price match policy where customers can show where a product can be found cheaper and the store will adjust their price.
'Walmart's price matching can be a secret weapon,' the secret worker explained.
'Just show proof of the same in-stock product priced lower at a local brick-and-mortar competitor and they'll adjust your previous charge.'
This alone could save tens or even hundreds of dollars a year.
The secret employee advised customers to use the Scan & Go option for checkout
'Skip the checkout lanes when possible with Scan & Go in the Walmart app,' the longtime employee advised.
'Shoppers can scan items directly in their carts using phones as they shop.
Then breeze straight through the exit when finished grabbing goods rather than waiting to check out' they explained.
'Not all Rollbacks are created equal,' the employee warned.
'Make sure to still compare supposed sale prices against previous pricing and competitor retailers to ensure you're actually getting the best deal.'
Weekday mornings are the best time to shop for a less crowded experience
To make your weekly food shop as efficient and pleasant as possible try and get to your local Walmart in off-peak hours, particularly mornings, the employee advised.
'Want to shop in peace? Avoid weekends and evenings–the store is much calmer then,' they told the publication.
'It's incredibly smooth shopping once the after-work rush clears.'
Walmart still employs plenty of floor staff to help, the Walmart veteran said
'Don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it,' the employee said, adding that Walmart employs plenty of floor staff ready to offer assistance.
'Friendly Walmart employees can point you towards items, answer product questions and even provide recommendations.'
They may also know a good cheaper brand to swap to in order to save money.
The secret employee offered their final tip: link Walmart rewards accounts to the Ibotta app which will allow shoppers to automatically earn cash back on certain purchases.
'It's an extra little rebate that keeps adding up when items you already buy trigger bonuses' they explained.
