Social media reaction was swift after world number one golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested outside Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville this morning.
Scheffler was attempting to enter the course for this morning's second round of the PGA Championship, when he says a 'misunderstanding' led to his arrest by Louisville Metro Police.
Among the reactions included Barstool Sports, who quickly greenlit a t-shirt with Scheffler's mug shot on it with the text 'Free Scottie' on it.
Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool, tweeted out a link to the shirt with the caption: 'I roll with my guy'.
Portnoy was one of many stunned golf fans who watched video as the world's best player was put in handcuffs and hauled off to a police station.
Scottie Scheffler's arrest has generated plenty of reactions on social media Friday morning
Within minutes of Scheffler's mug shot being released, Barstool Sports put it on a T-Shirt
Other social media reactions made fun of the situation, referencing 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop'
Scheffler was charged with felony second-degree assault of a police officer as well as three other non-felony charges.
The assault of an officer charge could stem from when one officer 'attached' himself to Scheffler's vehicle and got dragged by the car as Scheffler drove to try and get into the golf course.
That officer, only identified as Detective Gillis, was 'transported to the hospital after suffering pain, swelling, and abrasions' according to a police report.
In a statement, Scheffler called the incident, 'a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding.'
Social media reaction was largely in favor of the golfer, with a number of videos showing clips from movies and professional wrestling making fun of police.
That includes a clip from the movie 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop', where the titular character tries stopping an old man on a scooter - only to get dragged by it and failing to stop the moving vehicle.
Another included a video of an old WWE wrestling promo of Stone Cold Steve Austin breaking into an arena on a Zamboni, blowing past police barricades to tackle Vince McMahon
Other reaction surrounded a possible reaction from Tiger Woods, who has also been arrested in the past.
