A socialist Chicago councilwoman once called the US a 'garbage society' as she claimed policing in the country is based on racism.

Alderwoman Rossana Rodriguez is known for expressing her controversial views on social media, including her support for defunding the police and teaching critical race theory in public schools.

In a now-deleted post covered by Fox News, Rodriguez said: 'Our BIPOC youth are on the streets because they are not gonna settle for this garbage society we have.

'They know we are better off investing in the things that protect us… not police.'

Rodriguez often speaks against police on her social media, stating they are racist and that violence is mostly a result of white supremacy.

'When we say #DefundThePolice we mean developing alternatives to racist punishment and brutality. This work has been around for a while and it's a great tool to rethink our ideas of what public safety should look like,' Rodriguez wrote in 2020.

In another post she wrote: 'White supremacy, systemic racism and exclusion are at the root of the issue of violence. If we want it to end we have to commit to dismantling white supremacist structures and fight for equity.'

Rodriguez was elected to Chicago's 33rd ward in May, 2019 and re-elected last year for another four-year term.

When asked if white people can be victims of racism, Rodriguez replied: 'Race is not a factor that can impact success for white people.'

She added: 'This is why we need Critical Race Theory.'

Rodriguez was elected to Chicago's 33rd ward in May, 2019 and re-elected last year for another four-year term.

She caucuses with the Democratic Socialists of America, whose members include far-leftist congress members Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Cori Bush.

Rodriguez serves on the City Council’s committees on Education and Child Development, Environmental Protection and Energy, Ethics and Government Oversight, Health and Human Relations, Pedestrian and Traffic Safety, and Committees and Rules.

Her X account's bio reads: 'THIS IS MY POLITICAL ACCOUNT: It doesn’t represent the views of the city & city resources not used to maintain it.'

The politician, who was born in Puerto Rico, has found herself in hot water several times over her controversial posts on social media.

Last November she sparked outrage after she wrote 'From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free' on X.

The pro-Palestine slogan references the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea and is read by many as calling for the end of the state of Israel.

Rodriguez herself was accused of racism in July, 2023, after she posted a poll on X asking her followers for the 'best way to honor Italian-American heritage.'

The options she offered included espresso machines and Italian ice, sparking backlash from Italian-American groups.

The same month, Rodriguez was mocked for wearing an 'eat the rich' t-shirt despite her $130,000 salary.
