A woman has been branded a 'train Karen,' after a now-viral video showed her putting her feet on another passenger's seat - and refusing to take them down.
The video, which was initially posted to TikTok by user Joséphine Alarie and reposted on X, captured the moment an older woman refused to move her feet off a train seat while traveling from Harlem to Connecticut.
In a video posted by Joséphine, she explains that she catches the Metro North train about 9:50 p.m. every night from New York City to get to her job upstate.
'At this time of night it's always pretty packed,' she explained in the 10-minute-long video, adding she had to go through a few carriages before she could find somewhere to sit.
The video, which was initially posted to TikTok by Joséphine Alarie (pictured) and reposted on X, captured the moment an older woman refused to move her feet off a train seat
The woman told her there were 'plenty' of other places she could sit and she wanted to put her feet up, and when Joséphine said no, she started insulting her and mumbling to herself
Joséphine eventually found somewhere to sit, in front of an older lady who was sitting on a two-seater opposite another two-seater.
She recalled there was 'no one sitting next to her or in front of her,' and there was 'plenty of space' when she sat down.
The second Joséphine sat down, she said the woman started to take issue with where she was seated.
'The second I sit down, she leans into me and goes: "Can you move to the seat next to you?"' she recalled.
'She goes, "I want to put my feet where you're sitting."'
Joséphine said she looked at her puzzled and told the older lady she wasn't going to move.
The woman responded telling her there were 'plenty' of other places she could sit and she wanted to put her feet up, and when Joséphine said no, she started insulting her and mumbling to herself.
According to Joséphine, the woman then starts sliding down in her seat so she's fully stretched out and her feet are now touching her, with her feet against her legs.
While Joséphine was upset about the situation, many commenters on social media said both the women were acting like children, and she should have just moved
'I said, "Sorry ma'am but you're touching me. I would really appreciate it if you didn't do that,"' she recalled.
The older woman apparently replied: 'Oh well, you're sitting where I want my feet so I'm going to continue to touch you until you move.'
Joséphine said the woman then escalated things by moving her foot on top of the seat next to where she was sitting.
'When I started yelling she out her foot up in my face, [her] dirty bottom of her sole,' she recounted, perplexed.
The conductor then comes over, where the woman - who says she is 75 - continues to put her foot on her, causing Joséphine to furiously say: 'How f***ing dare you.'
According to Joséphine, she suffers from anxiety and started having an anxiety attack while the argument was happening, which was mocked by the woman.
The police are eventually called, but according to Joséphine she only got a 'slap on the f***ing wrist,' and the TikTok creator was moved to another seat.
Joséphine later posted an update, saying she found out the woman's name and went to the police to file a report for harassment and assault, but was told they couldn't do anything to help her.
'[They said they can't help me] because she did not inflict any physical harm on me, I'm not hurt, she did not harass me [using a deep verbal threat], and technically speaking it is "out of their jurisdiction as NYPD to handle the situation because there are police officers on the MTA Metro North trains that deal with this."'

While Joséphine was upset about the situation, many commenters on social media said both the women were acting like children, and she should have just moved.
'Lol I can't believe I spent the time. Adult-yourself and move next time,' one wrote.
'Honestly I think it would have been easier for you to just move. However, I believe that when the cops got involved they should have moved her. Not you. She was the problem & they should have kicked her off the train,' another pointed out.
'So they're both Karens. I thought so,' a third person laughed.
'Why would you sit directly across from someone when there were other seats?' someone else questioned.
'Yes, she was obnoxious but so are you, and you just posted this b/c (because) you knew you'd get a lot of views on this b/c (because) there's a lot of yelling. Both of you are annoying.'
