Bill Maher says Biden, 81, has only agreed to debate Trump because he knows he's losing, as liberal comedian urges Dems to dump him from ballot

Bill Maher claims Joe Biden only challenged Donald Trump to two debates because he knows he's losing and is desperate to make up ground.

The president threw down the gauntlet on Wednesday for Trump to face him twice before the election - on June 27 in Atlanta and September 10.

Trump immediately accepted with his typical bluster and declared he was 'ready and willing to debate Crooked Joe', despite his poor 2020 performances.

Maher on his HBO talk show claimed Biden only agreed to debate, something Trump goaded him about for the whole campaign, because of his bad polls.

They now indicate Trump will score an outright victory in November's election with analysts saying Trump's win sits outside polling margins of error.

'To me it says Biden knows he's losing because otherwise he wouldn't have agreed, Only the loser wants to debate,' he said.

'I think the guy who has more to prove is Biden. Trump is a known commodity. They know he's gonna be an a**hole.

'He's gonna be lurking and growling and not obeying the rules and everything else. But Biden, they want to see proof of life.'

Maher parroted the line that Biden, as it stands, has no choice of winning and his poll numbers - six months form the election - are grisly.

'I feel like we have turned a corner though. Like after the last election, it was 'Trump is finished.' And then a year later was 'Well, he's not going away',' he said.

'And then it was 'Uh oh, he could win again.' And now it seems like the consensus is almost Biden can't win.

'And he is losing in all the swing states I think except Wisconsin and by bigger and bigger numbers.'

Maher then suggested the Democrats would stand a better chance of winning if they convinced Biden to bow out and put up a younger candidate.

'Is it too late to switch out?' he said.

'Because in these swing states where Biden is losing, it's interesting. The Democratic Senate candidate is not losing.

'So it just says something, which is it's not the party necessarily somewhat, but it's the guy. They just don't see him as the guy no matter what he does.

'He has plenty of victories. It doesn't seem to ever move the needle, but the Democrats will have to get off their keister now. Now!'

Senate elections historically don't necessarily follow the presidential results and are more easily influenced by local issues and personalities.

Maher has previously discussed the idea of replacing Biden on the ticket, which would have to be done before, or during, the Democratic National Convention on August 19 to 22.

It has widely been rumored that Biden may well step aside or be forced to step aside come August.

His vice president Kamala Harris tends to fare even worse in polls.

But leapfrogging the United States first female vice president and first black vice president will prove a thorny task for Dems - particularly if the candidate ends up being a white man like California Governor Gavin Newsom.
