A mom has sparked fierce debate online after revealing the 'creepy' way she is picking out a baby name.

Haley, who is based in North Carolina, recently took to TikTok to candidly explain how she was deciding on a new moniker for her unborn daughter.

The content creator, who has built up a loyal fanbase of more than 114,000 followers on the video-sharing platform, is already mom to three kids.

But, with baby number four due in the coming weeks, she dished on the unconventional method she was using to pick out a name - which caused quite a stir on social media.

In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than two million times, Haley could be seen in a flowing pink dress that highlighted her burgeoning baby bump.

She walked across a patch of grass before stopping to beam by a sign to show that she was visiting the Old Smithville Burying Ground in Southport.

The overlaid text read: 'When cemeteries hold the prettiest names, so you take the family to look for a baby girl's name.'

The clip then cut to the whole family traipsing through the gravestones to pick out the perfect moniker.

Explaining what was going on, Haley announced: 'We're trying to find sissy's name.

'That's a big thing and we can show her how we found her name.'

The group observed the tombstones and read options aloud including James, Julian, Fisher, Ella and Galloway.

Sharing an insight from the graveyard, she then filmed a selection of cement structures in the middle of the burial ground.

Haley wrote: 'Did you know families used to come to cemeteries to have a picnic with their loved ones? These are even made to be a table.'

Focusing back on the task at hand, she continued reeling off a list of potential names including Salem, Bunny, Winnie, Vienna and Olympus.

Unsurprisingly, Haley's video was flooded with comments - with viewers left bitterly divided in the comments.

On the one hand, there were those who were not a fan of the unusual name-picking technique.

One person wrote: 'I couldn't walk into a place of death when I'm creating a new life.'

A second added: '10 years later we get a horror movie based on a true story.'

Another wrote: 'I'm sorry, but I find it a little creepy.'

Someone else dished: 'Do you want a possessed baby? Because that's how you get a possessed baby.'

But, on the other hand, some followers were much more open to using names from tombstones

One person wrote: 'Carrying a brand new soul through a garden of the past - what a clever way to find a beautiful name.'

Another commented: 'How beautiful must it be for some of these souls to hear their name spoken again after so many years. I hope you have an incredible pregnancy, and a healthy baby.'

Someone else added: 'Love this. I hope people walk by my child and say her name. I can't stop crying. Oh goodness, I hope so.'

'This is honestly beautiful. What a way to honor those that have passed,' a fourth echoed.
