If you're under 5ft3in, it might be hard to keep up with the viral trends without them feeling like they're overwhelming your figure.

From the oversized trouser sported by Kendall Jenner to the boxy blazer and ballet flats favored by Nicky Hilton, sometimes, it seems like what's cool isn't always crafted with petite dimensions in mind.

But contrary to some popular beliefs, just because you have a petite stature doesn't mean that you can't look great in an oversized pair of jeans or a flowing maxi dress.

FEMAIL has consulted two top professional stylists who shared how you can rock the latest trends all while making sure that they're complementing your height.

Wearing a maxi skirt is 'all about proportions'

While wearing a maxi dress or skirt may seem intimidating if you're below 5ft3in, you might be happy to know that there's actually a few different ways to make it work.

According to New York City-based personal stylist Jamie Lewis, wearing a maxi skirt or dress is 'all about proportions.'

'If you have a maxi skirt it's ideal to either have a fitted top or cropped boxy top but ideally it hits at your waist,' Lewis explained to DailyMail.com.

She said that the look of a maxi skirt can only become 'overwhelming' when every other part of the outfit is loose - like a loose top or loose jacket.

Lewis maintained that when styling a maxi dress, it should follow a similar shape as a skirt.

You should focus on having some parts of the maxi dress fitted around the waist.

'So if you were to have a maxi dress, it's similar to the skirt where the bodice of the dress is either fitted or there is a way to belt the dress and highlight your waistline,' she revealed.

Celebs like Katie Holmes, who stands at 5ft9in, have been seen in maxi dresses and skirts, but there's a way to do it if you're petite, too

The baggy menswear look can be customized to your liking

You may have seen models like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber rocking the baggy menswear trouser trend, but it doesn't mean that you need to be their height to make them look great on you, too.

Personal shopper and stylist Alex Lamb told DailyMail.com that the trousers don't always need to be super baggy in order for them to be on trend, especially if you're of petite stature.

She recommends getting them hemmed to perfectly fit your body.

There's other ways to style them, too, like adding some particular accessories.

'You can still pull off the look of a baggy trouser by tucking in your top, adding a fun belt and keeping your shoes delicate (like with a simple ballet flat or sandal) so that they balance out the look,' Lamb explained.

An oversized jacket or blazer can also work for those who are petite, but it all depends on the outfit underneath

Similarly, a pair of oversized trouser shorts are easy to wear, but it's important to make sure that they're not cutting off your leg, according to Lewis.

'Ideally, it's still oversized and loose but hits mid-thigh so we aren't losing length in your legs,' Lewis said.

On the top, she recommends a fitted top or 'boxier but semi-cropped' shirt, which will play up the waistline.

The popular oversized blazer can be balanced out with the outfit underneath

When it comes to sporting an oversized blazer or jacket, the most important thing to keep in mind is the outfit that you're wearing underneath.

'When you're wearing an oversized jacket or blazer it's important to make sure that the outfit underneath fits more tailored so that the look is balanced,' Lamb told FEMAIL.

She recommended pairing an oversized blazer with a fitted tank top or tee shirt tucked into a slim pant.

'You can even opt for a short as we get into warmer months because it'll still keep the look proportioned and like it's made for you,' she explained.

Certain ballet flat styles can give the illusion of being 'elongated'

Ballet flats are back in style, and have been spotted on the feet of just about every A-lister in the past few months, from Jennifer Lawrence to Sofia Richie Grainge to Meghan Markle.

But if you're petite, wearing a pair with a pointed toe can 'give the illusion of being elongated,' according to Lamb.

However, it all depends on what kind of bottoms you're pairing them with.

'If you like a longer pant, then you'll want to wear them with a heel so that it will give the illusion that your legs are longer,' she said.

'If you prefer something more cropped, a good reference point for where your pants should hit you is right above where your ankle bone meets your foot.'

Lamb emphasized that she believes everyone can rock a ballet flat with the 'right outfit,' but it also comes down to personal preference

But if you're not a fan of a ballet flat, Lamb suggested a plain, simple sandal without too many straps, a style that she finds to be universally flattering.

When it comes to other accessories, like belts, there are certain styles that might look better than others.

Lewis recommends wearing a thin belt over a thicker one.

'Avoid the super wide massive belts - with most petite women this will be too large for your midsection and look overwhelming,' Lewis told DailyMail.com.

'Ideally, one that is more thin works with your proportions.'
