TGI Fridays has abruptly shuttered another restaurant in New Jersey - bringing the total this year in the state to eight.
The most recent was its location in Brick on Route 70, which closed suddenly on Sunday.
Another is due to close in downtown Buffalo in New York State in the coming weeks too.
The move follows an announcement in January that it was shuttering 36 'underperforming' restaurants across 12 states in the US. Most closed that month.
The total for 2024 is now at least 38. Scroll down to see the list of all of them.
TGI Fridays continues to shutter restaurants - with another in Brick, New Jersey serving customers for the final time on Sunday. This is the Manhattan TGI Fridays
'We've identified opportunities to optimize and streamline our operations to ensure we are best positioned to meet – and exceed – on that brand promise,' TGI Fridays US president Ray Risley said.
The latest to shut was the TGI Fridays at 709 on Route 70 through Brick.
Meanwhile, the TGI Fridays at 601 Main Street in Buffalo - under a Holiday Inn Express - is slated to close for good in June.
TGI Fridays - which first opened in New York City in 1965 - has around 210 US restaurants. Globally, it operates more than 650 restaurants in 51 countries.
Other big name restaurant chains have been shuttering outlets too. Red Lobster has shut almost 100 and filed for bankruptcy while Applebee's is closing 35.
At the annoucement in January, TGI Fridays said the 36 would shut down right away. At the time it did not name these, but seven of those were also in New Jersey - the state most affected by the closures.
They were also in Massachusetts, New York, California, Colorado, Florida, Texas and Pennsylvania.
The popular chain said eight previously corporate-owned restaurants in the Northeast were being sold to former CEO Ray Blanchette.
The sold locations include eateries in Methuen, Manchester, Boston, Millbury, Everett, Braintree, Concord and Stoughton.
The US arm - known as TGI Fridays Inc - is later this year to merge with Hostmore, which runs 89 TGI sites in the UK.
It will create a larger firm which will remain listed in London.
