A six-month-old baby boy was rescued after he was shot by his father who broke into his mother's house in Arizona

On Friday around 3am, Todd Marchetti, broke into Allie Battiston's parent's home in Surprise, armed with a machete.

Allie was staying at her mother and father's home after her and Todd, her ex-husband, split up. At the time, her parents were away on vacation.

According to authorities, Todd knew that Allie's family was out of town when he decided to break into the home and hold his ex-wife and child hostage for more than eight hours.

'You close your eyes and all you can think of is, "God, I hope nothing happens to Jaxson or Allie,' Michael Norman, Allie's father told 12News

After trying to escape multiple times, Allie got in contact with a nearby construction worker as she escaped through the window with minor injuries.

Prior to police entering the house, Todd entered an hours-long standoff with them where, at some point, he shot his infant son in his 'lower extremities.'

Harrowing bodycam footage showed the moment cops stormed into the home and saved the baby who was still inside.

Multiple cops are seen surrounding the front of the home as gunshots rang out from inside.

Once inside, officers quickly search for the baby as one officer grabs Jaxson and runs out of the home while others search the area.

Officers then went into a room in the house as bright lights flash from inside the bedroom.  It is unclear if they confronted the father before saving the child.

Once they were rescued, the baby's father set the home on fire and was later found dead by cops who believe he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

During those grueling 12 hours inside the home, Todd shot a dog in the home, who was later euthanized.

After he shot the pet, Allie tried to convince her ex-husband to take the injured dog to the vet, but Todd would only go if her and the baby came along with him.

During the visit, Todd used a fake name and address and told the vet that the dog was a stray that had been hit by a car.

Once the three of them returned home, Allie tried to escape again by asking Todd to let her find workers to help them fix the window he broke in through.

After he agreed, she climbed out of the window and located a construction worker around 11.30am who called the police.

Once police rescued Jaxson, the baby was airlifted to Phoenix Children's Hospital.

On Monday, police shared that Jaxson is expected to recover and has undergone three surgeries since the traumatic incident.

The baby's worried grandfather said: 'He's awake. He'll open his eyes and rub his head, and, you know, tell him we love him.'

'He's alive. He's doing good. We love him. We need him in our life, and so we're thankful.'

While the violent incident unfolded, Norman and his wife were away on vacation, when she noticed a news channel showing their home burning on TV.

'To watch your house on TV burning to the ground. I don't even know how to explain that to people,' Norman said.

Firefighters were unable to fight the flames while multiple gunshots rang out, leaving the house burned to the ground.

Surprise Fire-Medical Department Chief Brenden Espie said that if the heroic mother hadn't tried to get out of the home, her and her son might have not made it.

'Unlike our members in the P.D. and fire, who trained for situations like this daily, Allie had to make a split decision that will impact her life and Jackson's life forever,' Espie said.

'I would like her to know, she should be very proud of her decision that she made. And I don't know that any of us know what we would do when we're faced with those types of situations.'

Norman said that his daughter was receiving hundreds of messages a day from Todd and said that Allie was a victim of domestic abuse.

'I'm sure I don't have to explain the seriousness of domestic abuse. If your son or daughter is experiencing, or is the perpetrator of domestic violence, do the right thing and report it as soon as it happens. Lives depend on it,' the family said in a statement.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help raise money to support Allie and Jaxson's road to recovery.

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $138,00 was raised, and an update was given on the mother and son's progress.

'Allie has been Glued to Jaxson's side during this crucial time to support his every need,' the post said.

'In regards to Jaxson's recovery, he has since opened his eyes up, and has been removed from breathing assistance and was finally able to be held in his mothers arms for the first time yesterday.'

Along with the positive update, a picture was shared of Allie holding Jaxson in her arms as they smiled at each other.

Community members have also rallied together to collect essentials for the family that lost their home in the dramatic incident, including diapers, clothing, food and formula.
