How 'America's worst mayor' Tiffany Henyard's massive spending blunder at glitzy conference where she met Biden put WRONG taxpayers out $10k

Tiffany Henyard, also known as 'America's worst mayor,' charged the wrong taxpayers and put them out about $10,000 after she went to a glitzy White House conference.

In mid-January, Henyard visited Washington, D.C., for the U.S. Conference of Mayors Annual Winter Meeting, as she filmed her experience, which included meeting President Joe Biden

According to Fox 32, the embattled mayor incorrectly billed $9,167 to taxpayers who do not live in Dolton, Illinois, where she is mayor. Instead, she used a credit card for Thornton Township to pay for the hefty expenses.

Former municipal lawyer, Burt Odelson, who represents Dolton trustees said, 'These appropriations are misappropriations.'

'Every time I say I can't believe she would do something, here comes another,' Odelson added.

Currently, Henyard is under federal investigation, and was recently served federal subpoenas seeking records about trips taken by city officials and potential financial mismanagement.

The 40-year-old municipal leader has developed a nationally terrible reputation for her confrontational antics, failure to do her job, alleged corruption and apparent disdain for her constituents, whom she has berated publicly and once with the assistance of a DJ.

A breakdown of her costs from the trip included $5,000 to the U.S. Conference of Mayors, a plane ticket for her and her assistant Keith Freeman for $718 a piece, hotel rooms at the Washington Hilton for more than $1,000 each and $629 for a rental car.

'The township residents are paying for her fun,' Odelson said.

After reviewing credit card statements, Odelson found that Henyard charged the expenses to a credit card from Thornton Township, where she serves as the supervisor.

When shown the credit card reports, Thornrton Township trustee Chris Gonzalez said it doesn't make sense, but he wasn't surprised.

'No, it really doesn't. But unfortunately, this is kinda what we see going on for a while now,' Gonzalez told Fox 32.

Although he wasn't shocked by the blunder, Gonzalez expressed his frustration with the matter.

'That's one of the reasons I vote no when we go through out board packets. Some of the stuff you don't know exactly what it's for. And then when you ask a question there's no answer,' Gonzalez said.

'It's not that hard. If it's for Dolton, Dolton pays for it. If it's for Thornton Township, Thornton Township pays for it,' he added.

DailyMail.com contacted the Village of Dolton and Henyard for comment.

A former Thornton Township employee, Stephanie Wiedeman, who was fired by Henyard, is the one who obtained the credit card statements via an open records request.

Weideman revealed that this isn't the first time Henyard's roles as the mayor of Dolton and supervisor in Thornton Township, a completely separate government body, clashed.

'I have found bills that were made out to the Village of Dolton that were paid with a Thornton Township check,' Wiedeman said.

'It's hard to decipher what is Dolton and what is township because she blends them so carelessly.'

She believes that the mayor is using funds from Thornton because Dolton does not have enough money to cover costs.

Dolton trustees have estimated that the village in Cook County is approximately out of $5 million due to Henyard's trips, multiple lawsuits against her, credit card usage and her police security detail.

Following her Facebook live-stream video at the event, Henyard posted an edited music video of her experience on her page.

'Thrilled to have been specially invited to the White House! Honored to represent our community in the front row. Grateful for the opportunity and excited for the year ahead. Always working on positive change and great things for our village and communities,' she captioned the video.

Recently, Dolton appointed a mayor pro tempore who could, in theory, step in to serve in place of Henyard, should she refuse to execute the duties of her office.

Jason House, a trustee of the city, was voted in as mayor pro tempore at a special meeting. Should Henyard be absent, or otherwise unable or unwilling to perform her duties, House now has the ability to pay town bills and sign off on official business.

Henyard, who calls herself a 'supermayor,' is expected to veto the action, despite consistent reports that she is ignoring important town business, and the move was made in order to ensure the village can function and its residents can receive necessary services.

'This is not a replacement. This ordinance is strictly in the refusal or inability for the mayor to do her duties, an appointed senior trustee to step in and make sure the necessary documents are signed and business moves forward,' House said at the  trustee meeting following the decision.

Henyard was elected mayor in 2021 and makes nearly $300,000 a year in a combined salary as the mayor and township supervisor.

Since her election, she has faced allegations of corruption, fraud and financial mismanagement, including a lawsuit filed a month ago claiming she worked to cover-up a sexual assault on a trip to Las Vegas in 2023.

She has already vetoed the board's request to launch a federal investigation into her alleged misuse of town finances, and most recently, she vetoed the board's hiring of former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who had been recruited to lead a special investigation into Henyard.

Alongside the mayor, her assistant, Freeman, was also one subject of the subpoenas, which asked for information that included reimbursements involving his businesses.

If Henyard is re-elected in 2025, she will retain the salary — but if anyone else takes the supervisor post, the pay falls 90 percent to $25,000, a measure critics say is designed to discourage anyone from running against her.
