New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu reveals who he would 'love' to see Trump pick as his Vice President and why he wouldn't take up the offer

Republican Gov. Chris Sununu revealed that he thinks Donald Trump should pick Nikki Haley as his running mate, and if offered the vice president spot himself he'd turn it down.

Sununu sat down exclusively with DailyMail.com at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education in Washington, D.C. about Trump's big decision ahead: selecting his running mate.

He thinks 'polarizing' Trump needs a strong bipartisan relationship builder partner so that he can accomplish a 'record of results' for Americans.

'I think she'd be great,' he said about Haley joining Trump's ticket in the No. 2 spot.

The New Hampshire governor, who is known as a bipartisan builder himself, spent a ton of time with Haley parading across the early voting state and ended up endorsing her over Trump.

Haley received 43% to Trump's 54% in the 'Live Free or Die' state, but it wasn't enough for her campaign to clip the former president.

But when pressed about whether he would consider joining the Trump administration should he win, Sununu flatly responded 'no.'

'It's not a Trump thing,' he replied when asked by DailyMail.com if he would accept an invitation by Trump to be his VP.

'It's I just don't have an interest in coming to D.C. I mean, I'd be honored if anyone ever considered me for something like that. That'd be an incredible honor,' he went on.

But he said his family is 'not looking to come to D.C., to be frank about it. But I think it would serve the entire country well whoever the next vice president is to bring, first and foremost that quality [of bipartisanship].'

'I mean, given where Trump is, he's very polarizing, to have a partner in the White House.'

Sununu had jabbed Trump many times on the campaign trail, calling out his 'advanced age' and saying the president 'contributed' to the January 6 Capitol riot.

Trump has called Sununu a 'loser' who makes 'really bad TV,' essentially ruling him out to make the VP short list.

The ex-president hinted he may add Haley to a future administration, acknowledging Thursday in a local interview that they had a 'nasty campaign,' but she's 'a very capable person and I’m sure she’s going to be on our team in some form, absolutely.”

Sununu said Mike Pence was a good VP choice by Trump in 2016 because he's very conservative, but he always had a 'great reputation' of working across the aisle and 'getting stuff done' in Congress and as governor.

Despite their tumultuous history, Sununu said last month that he would be supporting Trump by voting for him in November - because the alternative of Biden in the White House is too much of a risk.

His remarks came the day after former Gov. Nikki Haley revealed that she will be voting for Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

Her public backing comes despite Trump calling her a 'bird brain' and mocking her outfit choices on the primary campaign trail.

She explained that because President Joe Biden is a 'catastrophe,' throwing support behind Trump is the only choice.

'Having said that I stand by what I said in my suspension speech...Trump would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and continue to support me, and not assume that they're just going to be with him,' she said in a speech at the Hudson Institute on Wednesday.

'And I genuinely hope he does,' she added.
