A mother has caused debate after revealing she sends all four of her children to their rooms at 6.30 every evening so she can 'have quality time with her husband'.

Claire Ghana from Sussex took to TikTok to explain to her 10,000 followers that her two youngest children, aged one and four, are tucked away asleep before 7pm, while her two eldest children - aged nine and 12 - are both given marching orders to head to their rooms for an hour at 6.30pm to give her and her husband time to 'catch up'.

'Nine times out of ten they don't even want to be down here with us.

'Rules like this is why my marriage is thriving,' she explained in the video.

Claire said that 'quality time' is key. However critics hit back saying she must 'never spend time with her children'.

'Just because people have children doesn't mean that you should not have a marriage also,' she explained.

After revealing her children's schedules, many parents hit out at the mother with one person writing: 'No kids after 6.30pm. Do you spend any time with them?'

Claire hit back saying that there is more than 24 hours in a singular day, adding: 'Do people think that I look my kids in cupboards and don't have any sort of relationship with them.

'If I have the children all day - let's say on a weekend - my husband's working, [then] yes I am now going to say it is now quiet time for you to go to your room.'

She added: 'They go up to their room for an hour and a bit. It is not going to kill them out of the whole day.'

'Every parent is different. Every family is different and that is what works for us.'

Many were quick to critique the mother-of-four in the comments, with one writing: '6.30pm is tea time not bed time.'

'17 years with my husband, and it's thriving. My kids don't have to be sent to their rooms at 6.30. We all spend our evenings together,' a second chimed.

A third added: 'My marriage is thriving my 10 and 12 go bed at 9 , my 16 year old whenever she wants.

'You have your children young for a quarter of your life enjoy them.'

Another asked: 'When does your husband get to see them if he is working?'

'Do people think that I look my kids in cupboards and don't have any sort of relationship with them,' she said, hitting back at a negative comment

However many others flocked to Claire defence, with some saying they admired her parenting.

'I admire you Claire,' one said: 'You need house rules and time for yourself. You are a brilliant Mum.'

A second quipped: 'My son is in bed by 6:30pm and asleep by about quarter to seven. I don't see the issue they need there sleep, his two and half.'

'My kids go up at seven my brain needs time to heal from the day,' one parent added.

Another said: 'My son goes to bed at 7pm on a school night, weekends were not really fussed aslong as it's not too late! They need rules! We need our time!!'
