Shohei Ohtani has splashed the cash on a luxury mansion in California five months after putting pen to paper on the largest contract in sports history.

Ohtani, who signed a record 10-year, $700million deal with the LA Dodgers back in December, shelled out close to $8million on the swanky five-bedroom property in La Cañada Flintridge, which is just 11 miles away from Dodger Stadium.

While it does contain some famous faces - including actors Topher Grace and Donald Glover - the location is a quiet one away from celebrity hotspots such as Beverly Hills, Hidden Hills and Malibu.

Those areas may have proved too high-profile for the low-key baseball star, who only recently went public with his wife Mamiko Tanaka after revealing earlier this year that he is a married man.

According to the LA Times, the 7,327-square-foot property was built back in 2013 and sits on nearly an acre.

On the inside, it boasts a modern exterior that gives way to Midcentury-inspired living spaces made up of stone, glass and wood under skylights, clerestory windows and Bluestone walls.

Highlights include an indoor-outdoor living room, a kitchen with custom cabinetry, a family room with a fireplace and a home movie theater, gym, sauna and basketball court.

As well as five bedrooms, the mansion also has 6.5 bathrooms which includes a a primary suite with a balcony and spa tub.

Pocketing doors which lead outside also take you to a lounge overlooking a swimming pool, spa and lawn.

And to make it even sweeter for Ohtani, the home was originally listed for close to $9m last June, meaning he scored a huge discount.

He has acquired it from comedian Adam Carolla, who put it up for sale following his divorce from wife Lynette.

The two-way phenomenon has treated himself to a new house amid the ongoing investigation into his former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara's gambling debts.

Mizuhara recently pled guilty to bank fraud and signing a false tax return that could see him land in prison for over 30 years after stealing $17million from Ohtani.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Lionsgate Television is working on making a scripted series based on the scandal.

This show will be following Ohtani's story and his rise to becoming one of the most popular baseball players in the world.

But a big portion of the story will involve the moment he heard the news that Mizuhara stole tens of millions to pay off gambling debts.

That happened earlier this year and the Dodgers fired him after hearing about the allegations.
