An American woman has ignited a transatlantic stir after using a microwave to make her morning cup of tea - leaving horrified Britons clutching their kettles in disbelief.
Penny Kmitt, a CBS News reporter from Boston, U.S., has become the fixation of the internet following a recent TikTok video shared with her 200,000 followers on her account @pennylikeacoin.
In the controversial clip, Penny demonstrates her early morning tea routine, which to the dismay of many Brits, involves heating water in a microwave rather than using a traditional kettle.
The video, captioned: "The only negative of microwave tea is that my cup is warm," has sparked outrage among tea purists across the pond.
The footage shows Penny filling a Starbucks mug with cold tap water before placing it in the microwave.

After a couple of minutes, she retrieves the heated water and drops an Earl Grey teabag into it, and her cup of tea is ready to drink.
Penny further discusses the inconvenience of using a kettle and insists that she doesn't have the time to wait for it to boil, unlike her microwave, which she claims can boil water much quicker.
She said: 'I bought a kettle and I'm here to tell you they're overrated. Tea in the microwave literally takes me two and a half minutes.'
To prove her point, she starts a timer on her phone, later showing it takes over six minutes for her kettle to boil - six minutes and 13 seconds, to be exact.
Penny also mentioned that the water from the kettle is often 'too hot' and that she prefers the cooler temperature achieved through using a microwave.
The reaction from British viewers has been swift and scathing, with over 200 distraught individuals taking to the comments to share their disapproval over Penny's use of a microwave.
One person wrote, 'This is the most American I’ve ever seen,' while another said, 'Just buy a plug in kettle. My English heart can't take this, those poor tea bags!!!!!!!!'

Another viewer pointed out: 'If your microwave tea is cool enough to drink right away then it’s not hot enough to steep your tea, tea needs to be brewed at 212f,' while another said, 'That's an old fashioned kettle get an electric one it's like 1 min.'
One horrified Brit wrote, 'Sobbing and throwing up in British,' while a fourth said, 'I'm not even British but this offends me.'
However, some Americans defended Penny's time-saving method, with one person writing: 'Wait... I thought doing it in the microwave was normal... was I wrong this whole time?'
Another said: 'Honestly microwave is the most effective method, since it loses less energy compared to others.'
It comes after another American individual, who lives in the UK, sparked a transatlantic divide among foodies after criticising how Brits prepare a classic lunch and dinnertime staple.
