The morning-after text I received from my date is everything wrong with men over 35 - and thousands of women agree with me

A young woman has sparked a fierce debate online after sharing the text she received from a man following a first date.

Elizabeth Castaldi, from Rhode Island in the US, met the 35-year-old and had a nice evening, but was annoyed by the 'bad' message she received the following morning.

The 27-year-old nanny and business owner screenshot the private text and shared it on TikTok alongside the caption 'Is he a bad texter or is he over 35?'.

'Hey, I had fun last night. Have a good day,' the message read.

'Me too! hope your day is going well,' Elizabeth replied four hours later.

The exchange led some to question what was wrong with the message while others resonated with the experience.

Elizabeth clarified that she didn't have the 'ick' but was unable to determine if he was interested in her by the message.

'Let's be clear, I do not have the ick. I just can't read him and I really, really want to go on a second date,' she said.

'I wish he asked for a second date though. He didn't want to seem eager and neither did I.

'We had a great conversation in person but I can't tell if he's really interested! I assumed he'd ask to see me again.

'I thought he wasn't interested so I was just mirroring his energy… I'm nervous because I kinda like him.'

Many described the behaviour as 'normal' for a millennial man.

Elizabeth then messaged the man and wrote: 'Mornin! I'm free Wednesday and would love to see you again'.

But some dubbed his response as a 'cop out'.

'Hey good morning. Next week may be a little crazy with work as I have some deals closing. Basically not sure I'd be able to make it to RI. So maybe we play it by ear a little,' he responded.

'No worries love! If you want to choose a centrepoint that's ok! I'll leave that up to you,' she said.

'Yeah I don't have a car in the city which makes a centrepoint difficult,' he replied.

Elizabeth then left it up to him to pick a time and place to go on another date - but he's still yet to plan something.

The blonde beauty told FEMAIL dating is going 'alright' though she's had few 'bad dates'.

'I tend to be a little on the old fashioned end of things dating wise so it's definitely a quest to find a respectful, sweet, thoughtful, traditional-ish partner,' she said.

Many argued it's 'wrong' to judge so quickly, while other men couldn't see a problem with the texts.

'I just think it's ridiculous that we're sitting here criticising this simple yet nice text. Would you prefer exclamation points and emojis? Like they're grown adults,' one wrote.

'For someone that's turning 36 on Friday and hates texting - be patient,' another man advised.

'Can I ask, what should it say, because I definitely say the same thing. I'm 35,' one pondered.

'Coming from someone's who bf is 40, it's because he's 35,' another confirmed.

But one more added: 'No this is bad. I am 35 and my text game is elite.'

Hundreds of women sided with Elizabeth, many of which had similar dating experiences.

'Too much chasing. Let him do that,' one wrote, another dubbed Elizabeth as 'way too nice'.

'Work is never too crazy to hang out,' a third pointed out.

Someone else said 'playing it by ear' is 'insane'.

Others bluntly assumed the man isn't into her.

'He's not interested and that's okay! you want to feel giddy and excited and this is not it,' one woman wrote.

Someone else said: 'If he's not organising a second date it's simple, he's not interested in you , and that's ok, move on girl.'

When asked what she thinks of the debate, Elizabeth said she agrees the text 'was not that bad'.

'It was a lighthearted video to joke about my reaction to this guys post date text. I felt he started and ended the conversation at the same time. That's all! Didn't mean to offend anyone,' she said.
