A stay-at-home mother has faced backlash on social media after showcasing the elaborate school lunches she prepares for her nine-year-old daughter.
Alexia Gallegos, from the US, is a mother of three, but it's the contents of her eldest child's school lunches that have been igniting controversy on Instagram.
The mother, who insists that 'school lunches don't have to be cold and boring,' recently posted a video on her Instagram account, @lexymariee_, which features a detailed display of her lunch-packing routine.
Posting the clip, Gallegos was seen preparing a freshly baked potato, topped with seasoned steak bites, shrimp, broccoli, grated cheese, and herbs, and wrote: 'Baked potato for the win.'

After neatly packing the main course into a circular pink Bentgo lunchbox, Gallegos added an array of snacks to her daughter's to-go bag.
These included: a small container of pistachio nuts, a small container of Haribo Goldbear candy, a packet of chocolate-covered dried strawberries, a packed of sea-salt roasted seaweed and a packet of garden 'Veggie' straws.
The mother then added extra snack items, such as two Ferrero Rocher chocolates, a Kinder Joy chocolate, a tub of jellied fruit, beef jerky, a gummy Pizza candy box and strawberry and cream Tic Tacs.
To complete the meal, Gallegos included a Stanley flask filled with butterfly-shaped ice cubes and water, and a handwritten note that read: 'Hey beautiful, you are worth it ALWAYS! Keep being you! Love Mommy.'
Despite Gallegos' display of motherly affection, over 54,000 Instagram users have expressed their shock and concern over the appropriateness of the lunch - with many criticizing the portion sizes and the nutritional value of the snacks.
One person said: 'Sorry I feel bad saying it because you look so happy and made all with love... but this is so much food... also so much sugar for one day...'
Another wrote: 'All the plastic waste... and wouldn't one kind of sweets be enough? No apple, no banana....'
Meanwhile, one person joked, 'Is she going to school or building it?!,' while another teased, 'That little girl is still sitting in the cafeteria eating her lunch.'

A third quipped: 'Not sure if we are trying to k**l her with diabetes, or room temperature shrimp.'
A third said: 'Idk about anything else but that ice p****d me off she's not even gonna see the shape of the butterfly it's going to melt.'
A teacher confirmed that the video is likely to be a truthful representation of the child's daily lunch, writing: 'I've seen lunches like this before. Kids take one or two bites of the main and then eat the packaged food. Pack less. They don't need it.'
Meanwhile, an Instagram user claiming to be a school administrator, said: 'As a school administrator, we do not allow teachers to warm kids lunches up, so she's eating it cold the next day.'
It comes after an Australian mother was forced to defend her choice to send her four-year-old daughter to school with a boiled egg in June 2021.
