The California zip code with the highest average income has been revealed - and residents may be surprised to discover it isn't 90210.
The 94104 zip code came out on top as the most affluent places to live in the Golden State, which covers the majority of San Francisco's Financial District.
According to recently released IRS tax data from 2022, residents made an average household income of around $5.5 million in 2021.
The staggering average sum came in second across the entire nation, with the SF Chronicle reporting that only 33109 - Fisher Island in Florida - had richer residents at an average income of $6 million.
San Francisco's Financial District boasts the highest average income of any Californian zip code
The Financial District's staggering average sum came in second across the entire nation, with only Fisher Island in Florida (pictured) owning richer residents at an average income of $6 million.
The IRS data used to compile the rankings was notably only an aggregate of residents' earnings, meaning a small number of very wealthy individuals may bring a postcode soaring up the ranks.
This may explain why San Francisco's Financial District had such a high average salary, because some tax filers register their work addresses on their returns.
According to the SF Chronicle, this saw 1,500 people listed on filings from the 94104 zip code despite it only having a population of less than 600.
Just 39 percent of the total income reported from the Financial District came from earnings, while a huge 39 percent was reported from capital gains.
In San Francisco, the rise of homelessness and decline in living standards in recent years meant there was a huge disparity in earnings - with the lowest earning Treasure Island coming in with average household earnings of $55,000.
The highest-earning zip code is not the only one in the Bay Area with affluent residents, as Silicon Valley owning several other high-value zip codes.
In particular, the city of Atherton - home of Golden Gate Warriors star Steph Curry - has an average income of $3.5 million.
Two other zip codes in Palo Alto, 94304 and 94301, also boasted average incomes well over $2 million.
Across the state, seven zip codes had incomes over $1 million, six of which were found in the Bay Area.
And overall, just two of the top 10 didn't come from the Bay area - Century City's 90067 and the Pacific Palisades' 90272.
San Francisco's place as the wealthiest enclave in California notably comes due to wealthy residents registering their workplaces on tax filings

The huge divides between have's and have not's in San Francisco were even more pronounced compared to the rest of California, as those zip codes with earnings of at least $400,000 were predominantly found around major cities Los Angeles and San Deigo.
However, the apparent wealth concentrated in the Bay Area only comes from the most recently published IRS data in 2021, meaning it does not include recent trends.
This would mean that it does not include the loss of population during the pandemic as wealthy residents flocked to Texas and Florida.
The huge number of tech layoffs last year also saw tens of thousands of people lose their jobs at firms such as Meta and Google, which sent unemployment rates soaring.
