Consumers have been warned not to eat certain ground cinnamon and ginger products after they were found to contain lead.
New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard A. Ball issued an urgent advisory against the Badia Spices condiments on Monday.
Analysis by New York State Food Laboratory found the products contained unsafe levels of lead - more than 1-part per million. No illnesses have been reported.
Officials have warned consumers across the country to check their cupboards for the spices and to discard them immediately if found.
Exposure to lead can cause serious health issues, including damage to the central nervous system, and developmental defects in children.

The ginger and cinnamon products are sold all over the US.
Contaminated batches include Badia Ground Ginger, sold in 1.5-ounce clear plastic bottles with black plastic caps with UPC Code #033844002237 and Lot # 307922.
Badia Ground Cinnamon, sold in 2-ounce clear plastic bottles with black plastic caps with UPC Code #033844000158 and Lot #’s 305481 and 309528, is also subject to the same warning.
