A woman has revealed how making strange requests from strangers as part of her 'rejection therapy' has helped overcome her fear of embarrassment.

Sophie Jones, 22, from Warrington, has been deliberately putting herself in situations where she is likely to be told 'no' as part of a 30-day challenge.

The TikToker has now put herself through 23 days of rejection therapy with the hopes that it will reduce her sensitivity to rejection by regularly putting her in uncomfortable situations.

In her most popular video, which has amassed over 900k views, Sophie confidently walked into a petrol service station and asked if she could have her fuel for free.

She explained: 'It's day 19 of rejection therapy, I'm at the petrol station and I'm going to ask if I can have my petrol for free.'

After walking into the ASDA Express, Sophie was told her total was just over £28 - which prompted her to cheekily ask for the freebie.

The request stunned the person behind the till - prompting Sophie to joke in the caption that their 'silence was loud'.

Sophie claims the person gave her the 'dirtiest look' when she repeated the question and she then went on to ask if she could get a discount.

Shutting down the request, they said: 'We don't do discounts on fuel.'

Having settled up inside, Sophie headed back to her car and said: 'I actually feel okay.

'Honestly, [...] she gave me the most dirty look I've ever received in my life!'

The video amassed over 58,800 'likes' and even received a comment from the official ASDA TikTok account.

The business joked: 'We love you for trying though bestie.'

Another joked: 'Next time, assert dominance. Tell them they're under obligation to give you petrol for free.

'Then also take whatever you want from the store on your way out... dominance therapy.'

'She went home and talked about you,' a third said.

In a recent installment of cringeworthy challenges, the TikToker went to ask someone if she could fill their car up with petrol for them.

Gearing up for the odd request, she said in a video: 'This is where the work is, when you feel nervous and anxious, pushing through it, because it's not gonna be as bad as you think.'

Sophie reached petrol station two before she managed to pluck up to courage to ask an older man, who told her no.

Despite the mortifying and countless rejection, Sophie is optimistic about her journey to overcome anxiety and her phobia of being judged.

The TikToker said: 'The challenge is about knowing you can do a silly thing and desensitising yourself to fear and judgement.

'It applies to all aspects of life - imagine what you could do if you didn't hold yourself back and could push yourself out your comfort zone.'

After just a week of completing the nail biting challenges, the content creator said she had already noticed a difference in her mindset and said she cared less about other people's opinions.

'I'm noticing little changes already. For my TikTok I often have to push myself out my comfort zone to do comedy videos and it can make me anxious.'

Other cringeworthy examples of Sophie's rejection therapy include when she asked to slide down the fireman's pole at the station.

A policeman greeting her at the door to emergency services told her the fire team weren't available but that the outcome was 'unlikely'

After trying her luck, Sophie concluded: 'It's not even hearing no that's the worst part of this, it's the judgment side of it. You just feel so silly and they look at you like "what on earth" but imagine in day to day life if you didn't have the judgement of other people.'

Other challenges have seen her asking to make her own McFlurry at McDonald's, asking to have a nap on a bed shop mattress, asking to borrow at iron from Curry's, and asking to have her petrol for free.

Although all of the requests were met with a stern 'no', the challenges are designed to make smaller rejections feel less painful.

In a recent video, Sophie assured viewers she has seen the benefits of her unusual project of tough luck. She captioned one recent video on TikTok: 'The unknown is scary but it doesn't have to be. We always want to be in control, but in reality, we control very little.

'Open your mind up to the abundance of life. The unknown means anything can happen. You can wake up tomorrow with a dream email, you just need to open your mindset up to the possibility that great things can happen to you.

'If it can happen for other people, why can't it happen for you.'
